That sounds exhausting. I have a very healthy self esteem, and I'm not too concerned about masking the AS in order to get in a relationship. There are accepting people out there, both NTs and on the spectrum, who don't require you to mask your true self. It's just a matter of finding them... =/ whe...

It doesn't seem like something I'm willing to risk. I have other problems which may make me harder to treat (ASD, anxiety, OCD), but my doctor insists that antidepressants will ruin my sleep cycle and make me irritable (adderall makes me this way). He has put me on an MAOI and it did screw up my sl...

About a year ago I had ECT after two years of failed med trials and severe depression which at the time was believed to be bipolar. Now I know my psychiatrist misdiagnosed me because she had little experience with treating and recognizing autism spectrum disorders. She saw the AS symptoms as bipolar...

I have the same problem. I've been told I really need to work on it, and it's very alienating. The thing is I don't even notice the conversation is one sided. Anyway, when I'm trying to have a good conversation with someone, I think of questions to ask *before* I start talking to them. Granted, I ne...

Sympathy sounds like an emotional thing. I mean, it sounds like something that happens after there's an emotional connection. Not just favors. That's how it's been in my experience, at least. I wish sympathy could be earned with favors... That's a lot less emotionally draining.

I have two special interests that never go away, and some other ones that seem to go in cycles. I can't tell if the two will be permanent because I'm young. I don't really think your nephew or his friend are in a unique position. Also, those three special interests still might change for him.

Of all my sensory issues, noise is the worst for me. That's saying something, too... The sound of people chewing makes me furious and I can't tolerate it. In fact, my IEP states I get to eat lunch in a separate room by myself because of that intolerance. People who don't know me think I'm overdrama...

I really liked it. I saw it in 3D, and surprisingly, that was tolerable =D. It didn't come close to any of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies, though. Hans Zimmer, though =D. He definitely delivered with the score.

This is a very distressing issue for me. I definitely understand feeling almost "stuck" between these two different groups. Especially in school. I can't function in a regular, general ed classroom, but special ed programs say I need somewhere less restrictive, as far as academics. I've tried altern...

I can relate. Whenever I try to read in a public setting, I end up terribly frustrated. Every little noise seems to bother me more, and I snap at people around me who are being too loud, in my opinion. I've always struggled with reading and noise, or even talking to someone and balancing out backgro...

Try engaging in simple and quiet activities before bed, and when you can't sleep. It makes it harder to fall asleep when your brain is still wide awake from lots of activity, noise, and anything that could be stimulating to you. If you're at all like me, it might take a really long time to settle do...

Compliment these women on something relevant to them. For instance, tell them they have pretty eyes. Since you don't know them that well, and you just met these girls at the gym, you can't give them compliments on their personality or achievements, really. Stick to things relevant to THEM, though. P...

Let them do the testing again, if that's what they want. I was misdiagnosed with bipolar for over two years, and the way I was treated for bipolar was anti productive. Basically, bipolar and Asperger's are treated differently, and it's best to not get them confused. For instance, the meds used to tr...
