... I couldn't pick out symbolism to save my life. A river is a river is a river, nothing more. Well, until my teacher decided there was way more to it. .... I wonder whether an analytical approach can help overcome this, for example analysing the qualities of the river, the context in which it's r...

I don't know what education choices I'd make if I were in the US. I'm grateful to be in a country where I don't have to choose between inner & outer poverty. I suppose I might go for a job-oriented course, and try learning those important subjects which I think everyone should be well educated i...

why do university bigwigs need to make such inflated salaries? surely there must be a more economical way to get people higher education that actually gives one a diploma that means something, that doesn't have a bankrupting cost attached to it. Are their salaries really inflated compared to other ...

... This is good advice. Yeah, pity that I'm useless at actually doing it myself. I tried to join a political/activist group, which led to me developing a huge crush on a guy only to be very disappointed (he was actually gay, which if anything made things worse). After that it was just too awkward ...

The trouble is that Humanities and Liberal Arts majors seem to be under-employed more often than engineers and scientists. Yes, definitely. If education is only about job training, then the arts & humanities do very poorly. Many people seem to see education primarily in terms of employment pros...

It's interesting that there's this variety among Aspies in how well we do in these different areas, yet we seem to have similar strengths and weaknesses at the same time. I think it's probably about the way that we approach the subject. I take a very analytical approach to English, with attention to...

I agree that there is what comes across as "hypersexuality", but I'm not convinced that it's more the case among the gay community than society generally. Maybe it seems that way because it's not as taboo and repressed as it is among straights - freely and openly expressed. There's lots of evidence ...

Because people do things for reasons other than "how will this make me money"? +1 (where's the 'Like' button when I need it?) It's a problem in the US because you don't have a free college education system. In the civilized world, everybody can have a well-rounded education in the humanities, as we...

I did well in English without trying, but maths was difficult because if I didn't follow something in class (inevitable as an Aspie in an under-resourced school full of troubled students and before my diagnosis), I'd fall behind and it'd be increasingly difficult to understand anything. Later on at ...

It also depends on the local culture. In the US, people seem to be expected to 'blow their own trumpet' so to speak. Here in Australia, there's a 'tall poppy syndrome', where those higher than the others are cut down. People here are expected to speak self-deprecatingly, otherwise others will do it ...

It seems even more difficult to get along with homosexual NT's than straight male/female NT's. I don't fully understand why but it's upsetting feeling even weirder and more out of place, like I won't find a partner because I can't find homosexuals I can get along with who aren't only talking to me ...

Yes, I agree Schneekugel, it's so much better that cats look after themselves and aren't so dependent. It's a major burden to have dogs and need to walk them so often, knowing that it's cruel to neglect doing that. A benefit to us to make us get out exercising more, unless it doesn't bother our cons...

I'm big-boned, so endomorph I supposed, but not fat. ... ??! ! ... Is this about fat or skeletal structure? Is "big-boned" just a joke? I'm confused, but it's nice to be among fellow Aspies who understand my confusion about such apparent ambiguities. :)

Throughout my life, I've liked cats more. Lately I'm appreciating dogs more, and I think it has something to do with my recent increase in appreciation for social needs & feelings.

Have any men here endured, and left, a long-term abusive relationship? How did you recover? Or was your ability to trust women permanently destroyed? Any advice for a female friend/ex-flame who genuinely cares about him (not to mention those poor kids, who spend most of their time with the psycho e...
