I am 24. People who encounter me without knowing me typically think I am 14-16 years old.

A year ago, when I was 23 and my sister was 21, someone thought she was my mother... I really don't know how that one happened.

I was somewhat like this as a child and you are right, I think it is an anxiety-related behavior. I think-- for me at least-- this had a lot to what is called "uncertainty avoidance", which is really common in a number of anxiety disorders. It basically means that you have a hard time tolerating thi...

I find it very easy to tell the difference as I have excruciating pain in my head, face, jaw and/or neck when I have a migraine. I do not have this when I go into sensory overload, even though the overwhelming feelings are sort of pain-like. If you have migraines without pain ("silent migraine") I w...

I hear sounds when I see motion (for instance, I hear a little "click" when a traffic light changes), and I'm pretty sure I also hear sounds when I feel things like textures or bodily sensations. Oddly enough, these two can overlap-- visual static, for example, generates the same noise for me as whe...

it needed to be much longer and more in depth. I really wanted to know more of what happened in the life of the little girl, who made me weep, btw. I think they did a decent job for the time they had and the number of people they covered, but I too would have liked to see more from each of the peop...

I have pretty severe anxiety. It is bad enough that if I am not properly medicated for it (currently on an antidepressant and an anti-psychotic) others can observe me shaking. I have generalized anxiety, social anxiety, anxiety about specific things (not quite full-blown phobia level, but close) suc...

I tend to have a somewhat "stoned" or intoxicated look about me at times due to my tendency to daydream and thus "look at nothing" and the way that my eyelids sometimes droop when I am not concentrating on looking at something specific. My behaviors may not help the perception much. This seem...

Unless somebody tells me, or unless it was a big mistake (like insulting somebody), I am never sure whether or not I made a social mistake. Sometimes I think I did when I really didn't, and other times my perception is accurate. I can never be quite sure of what I am doing when I am talking to other...

I'm wondering if you are experiencing what's known as "hypomania"-- does any of the things in this article (http://bipolar.about.com/od/maniahypomani1/a/what_is_hypomania.htm) sound like you? If not, you might just have times when you feel better and then you go back into a depressive episode. If th...

Hello Haywire, I wish I could help but I am in a similar or perhaps adjacent boat to you! I feel like I missed out on a lot of my gender socialization for some reason, perhaps because I was autistic. I don't think I ever properly picked up on what it meant to be a girl or woman. I remember being con...

I use "mild" to indicate that I am not very disabled by my autism and that I don't need to access very many services or means of help to deal with it. I am much more disabled by depression and anxiety than I am by anything my autism gives me to deal with. It also has the side effect of indicating ho...

What I meant by my other post is that a quiz is not going to give accurate results as to why people stim, it will however give insight into why people THINK they stim, those two are very different and should not be confused. That's correct. Many people have no idea why they stim, so might deliver r...

Yes, I'm interested in it-- took a few courses in college.

One of my favorite sites is http://blogs.plos.org/neuroanthropology/ , it's a blog about the mind and culture which I find completely fascinating.

I was in one for a week back in January because my psych thought I was a danger to myself. I had the "choice" to sign the papers and go in myself or basically be legally committed. Mostly it was spectacularly boring there-- wasn't much activities to do or even therapy going on. I spent most of the t...

I find I can learn social skills in the same way that you might learn to interact with a cat or dog or lizard or whatever. It's not intuitive but you can learn how animals operate and learn to respect their boundaries, what makes them happy vs. aggravated, what their body language looks like when th...

Some of the more unusual smells I like are dirt and mulch, flax oil (in oil paints), fried food smell, and concrete being mixed.

Harsh turpentine-like or petrochemical smells usually give me a searing headache, so I don't like any of those.
