Thanks Rooster1968. I'll see if I can get a morning off or something. This whole thing is making me agitated. What takes the real world so bleeding long? Up to 12 weeks before I might be able to go part time. Up to 10 weeks before my claim for PIP benefits gets a decision. An unknown number of weeks... |

Hi everyone. Thanks for your replies. As Wreck1 says, there is definitely an element of boredom in our burnout, at least sometimes. Maybe it's because we don't think like the neurotypical world and we don't understand why people just make themselves miserable and wallow in stressful jobs. In a sense... |

Hi all, I've done lots of research on "burnout" and it doesn't seem to be mentioned in any "official" literature. I've spent my life running away from jobs, being judged as a skiver and suffering horrible self-doubts and bouts of depression because I get into phases where everything is too much effo... |

Never heard of "shutdowns" before but I'd say this is related to social anxiety. I'm still learning what it means to be an aspie, but have a crapload of experience dealing with anxiety and depression. If anxiety is the problem, the only way you will ever beat it is by facing it. Anxiety seems to get... |

Hi all. I work with an absolutely amazing bunch of people - they're all neurotypical, but some of them are familiar with aspergers (it seems to be all the rage these days!) and all of them treat me with respect and love, two things I am definitely not used to getting from colleagues. The problem is,... |

Anxiety and depression are related to how we process the world, and they are also side effects of all our negative and difficult experiences. I would always recommend CBT as a starting point, NOT counselling, and you should build a support network to help you with what you're going through. Medicati... |

Hi Tuttle, I just assumed people would know - sorry, I don't usually make silly mistakes like that :) InnaLucia - I could go in there and give them a proper dying swan act but I don't like to lie. However, given the immense amount of crap I've had to go through to get where I am now, I can use logic... |

I would like to see what people think are the BENEFITS of being aspergers. I know it can be a pain in the rump and it's caused us all some trauma, but I am willing to bet we've each had our shining moments which were all thanks to being aspies. I like telling the truth, even if we live in a world th... |

Not to de-rail the thread, but maybe we should have a discussion about what we CAN do BECAUSE we're aspergers. |

Evening everyone, thanks for the replies. I live in the UK. It is harsh but true that disability equals poverty for those of us who can actually engage in the world. The problem with being an aspie is, there is so much information coming at you from everywhere; it doesn't seem possible to get out th... |

I'm not sure about hurting the bottom line, but they definitely hurt my head
I love neurotypicals, they can be wonderful people, but you never quite know where you are with them |

I can't define what it is that aspergers is holding me back from. I do think that if it wasn't for aspergers, I would either be a famous novelist, a scientific researcher, a counsellor... or completely normal, with no remarkable traits whatsoever. I don't know whether aspergers has given me gifts, o... |

I tend to find my feelings deepening for someone in her absence, yes. This actually happened to me over the last few weeks. I don't get sexual feelings towards girls I am interested in whether I am with them or not. I know that's weird but rather that than be like one of those blokes who's got nothi... |

Hi all, I just joined so feel free to say "hello" or perhaps even "bugger off" in my introduction thread ;) I just wondered, I am sick of getting burned out in a stressful (but good) job, striving to match all the neurotyps with their long hours and silly, overbearing pressures. Don't get me wrong, ... |

Hi all, I have (FINALLY) been referred on to St George's in Sheffield for confirmation that I am an aspie. I imagine most of you have had the same experiences I have: being marginalised and "bouncing off" the world; not receiving any support in school or college or work; feeling like every full time... |
