I can totally relate to your story. Mine isn't too dissimilar. However, I happen to link my aspergers to my abuse and I am coming to believe that its all cyclic. One brought about the other and there is a causal link that results in a repeated cycle. I was rejected/socially awkward because of my asp...

Not sure if this is going to be helpful or not, but in my own career I also felt compelled to go the teacher route. I didn't have a strong desire to do this, but it made sense. Fast Forward to me completing my Masters in Education and even a year toward a PhD. Then the reality hit and I had to get a...

Don't worry about this in any way. It is all about YOU and even if you feel ready for it you still may not be. Do not let others experiences sway where you are and what you expect for yourself. In retrospect I think I would have been a lot better off if I had waited quite a bit longer myself.

My best suggestions: 1. Let your clients talk about themselves. People, generally, like talking about themselves and their families. Let them do that while you sit back and LISTEN. They will tell you what they want. 2. Learn to LISTEN. Look at whoever is talking to you and repeat back to them what t...

While I don't have a solution to your issue, I can relate in that I have dealt with this for my entire career although I didn't understand why until I started to recognize myself with ASD. I do not have an official diagnosis though, to be clear. I always did well in school, but once I worked with th...

Do you find it important to label yourself? That's the real question in my mind. I am hetero to be clear, but I don't think of myself with that label. I am who I am and I like what I like. If someone likes me or hates me, it might bother me a little bit, but ultimately I don't really care and it doe...

I understand where you are coming from on this, but its a simple fact of life. The higher up the "food chain" you go, the more liberties you have with it. Some bosses will be harder working than others, while another may be off doing his own thing. There may also be things you don't know a...

Hello there!! It would seem to me that you and I have had exceptionally similar experiences, except I had no clue I was likely on the spectrum until WELL after I left teaching. I started at a small school in TX and then moved closer to Mobile, AL where you list you are from (although I recognize you...

Years ago I managed a retail store, but have been in Government jobs for the last 20 years just to give you some perspective. Yes, I do think that physical attractiveness factors in, its built into our genes. However, I don't think it would necessarily be the single most important factor in any way ...

I tend to believe that there is something there that cannot be explained and unless you have experienced it then you can't really discount it. Blah, blah scientifically this or that. In my experience there have been times when this has happened to me and its not predictable, its rather random. When ...

In my opinion, and this is only my opinion, that at 15 years old you don't likely know how to identify yourself. If you are confused then you just need to give yourself time. Don't rush to judge where you will have your preferences. Most of the members of the LBGT community I have known knew for ce...

Although I joined this board several years ago I haven't really been around here much until the last month or two. The more I learn about Aspergers, the more I realize that this is where I fall. Having said that, at now 48 years old, I am starting to understand why I perceived the world the way I di...

I am at a crossroads in my life, so this is of great interest to me. I had a nice big answer typed out for you, but then I re-read the question and I went off topic. It certainly does seem that many career choices seem fascinating on the surface, but then the reality hits and they don't seem nearly ...
