Share with you the pain of awareness of social awkwardness. But it does change and has improved my current interactions. It's stressful, but I have learned how to communicate better and what situations to avoid completely. The most helpful idea is that ALL people have difficulties in life, so we Asp... |

A nice thing you'll find out over time is that even in your small town you will meet artists, atheists, progressives, and gay people. And you will really, really appreciate them! In my experience, talking about food, crafts, travel, home repairs, and/or sports provides enough common ground to get by... |

Clumsy, terrible hand-eye coordination, always picked last in sports in school, slowest runner ever, but I love to move and am thriving on physical activity in my retirement years. So keep on truckin'! !! !! No matter how clumsy. |

So if you're referring to dogs, literally-I go out every day hiking and doing trail maintenance with my dog and we're definitely a team. I'd have at least one more dog if circumstances allowed. We truly work together and that's always been my relationship with dogs. If you're referring to people in ... |

While I try to stay under the radar, it seems people start ignoring and avoiding me without ever even having a conversation. Or they'll be friendly for a while if we share common interests, then drift away. |

Didn't think it had to with AS but I've been on the low side of normal weight all my adult life. I love to eat and cook, but don't consider it a priority and will eat very simple meals when busy, but I get lots of exercise so don't forget to eat for sure. |

If I had known more about Aspergers early in my life, I would NEVER have lived with a lover. It was always so stressful-but I didn't realize how ill-suited I was to continuous coupledom. Even having your own room in the house, if you say you want to sleep alone, it's "why, what's wrong, is something... |

Oh, I want to go home too-to a place where I'm protected and accepted and can rest from life! My personal childhood home wasn't like that, yet when my father sold our childhood home (I was over 50 at the time) , I felt devastated-"I can never go home." It was so embarrassing to feel that way, yet in... |

Lots of magic in just in the last couple weeks- I visited a friend who volunteers at a wonderful restored farmstead and we got walk around the old house, gardens, and barns right before dark with no one else around-so ethereal! I was on my way to a big hiking club event in a small town. Right before... |

Interesting topic. Female and as a child and young adult, I usually had only one or two female friends who were motherly toward me. I was sort of afraid of boys. Then at college age I hung out with hippie groups of both sexes. But once I started working, I felt more comfortable with the men because ... |

Oh, and the most frustrating thing is when you garble up something to the point someone feels insulted, when you meant just the opposite. My ideal strategy (when it's possible) in workplace, social, or organizational settings is to have "interpreters" who somehow can read me better (and that I'm cal... |

Love what you said B19 about animals having as much right to exist as humans. I do have Asperger friends that see the logical side of how much a pet cost in money and time and think having pets is illogical. Animals (pets, horses, farm animals, wild animals) and I communicate well and I love them, b... |

Making judgement calls often require thinking through several options. Each option has a series of steps, and each step has a cause and affect. Each step may also have its own options. So yes, I think that's complicated and difficult. 8O I supplement my lack of ability in this area with slowing down... |

My oldest friends were here visiting recently, and I' was able to relax, laugh, and talk seriously about things. Yes, sometimes certainly I still evaluate my thought before speaking, but overall I feel SO MUCH more myself with them than with the acquaintances and casual friends who live nearby. I've... |
