I never use the word 'bless' and I hate the word; it exudes sentimentality and soppyiness, which both offend my need for objective logicality. Unfortunately my support worker seems addicted to the word. If I mention going to the country and seeing some pretty farm animals, she will say 'bless' or 'b...

I certainly analyse myself a lot. I have been told by my support worker that I have a lot of insight into my difficulties, probably because of a special interest in psychology. My egocentricity could actually benefit me in some ways! I also love learning about people, and how society works.

I have very few sensory issues, and they are to do with noise and chaotic movement. I have absolutely no problems with taste or texture, and have an extremely varied and comprehensive diet. It is only my OCD that makes me somewhat fussy with food - 'safe' foods and 'risky' foods. I have no significa...

I like to look good, but I don't really follow fashion in any big way. I dress in 100 per cent cotton t-shirts, and I like the ones with a sizable sleeve. I have several different t-shirts, some of which are polo necked with a few buttons over the chest. I have 4 summer trousers, two linen, one cott...

As a child I was more obviously Asperger, but was not diagnosed until I was 21. The school did get me assessed when I was 10, but that was for educational purposes, and it showed I was emotionally and physically immature, with a severe discrepancy between skill areas. I improved a lot since the age ...

The problem is that we have no physical test for ASD, so even the most objective diagnostician cannot always be one hundred per cent accurate in all cases. In many ways, over-diagnosis is better than under diagnosis, but it becomes a problem if it deflects attention away from those who experience AS...

I totally get this. I HATE crowds with a passion :( . I tend to flick my fingers when I am in these situations, clench my fists and chew my lips.
I feel trapped because I cannot walk at my usual pace, and my whole body quivers with tension.

I can make eye contact during brief exchanges, such as when I am on the till at AGE UK charity shop, where I volunteer, and a customer asks a question. But when I am expected to make eye contact with the manager I feel very uncomfortable, and it is hard to listen and look at the same time. When I am...

I prefer the word 'tantrum' because 'meltdown' makes me think of a melting nuclear reactor and volcano in my literal mind 8O. I mainly have them in private now, but I can feel the pressure building until I get to a safe place where I can let rip. I throw things, pull my hair, shout, scream, stamp my...

I disagree with the whole concept of total intelligence as ranked by IQ. IQ tests a certain type of intelligence - your ability to take a test. It does not test your ability to connect information and solve intellectual problems in the real world. No offense to MENSA members, but sometimes people wi...

When I am in a panic or very anxious about something, I shout out 'I don't like it' in a childish voice, and sometimes cry like a child. My natural voice is childish, but I try hard to cover this up in public - I am not sure how successful I am with this, and I have been told I have a young voice. I...

I have contamination OCD and fear of illness. I avoid ill people, wash my hands too much, and worry about food hygiene. I also check appliances to make sure they are off, and feel the urge to repeat the checking, which is most unpleasant. I also have a noise in the house phobia, am always on edge (p...

Noise at home. When it happens, and I can't control it, I start shaking and feel a tingly sensation shooting right through my stomach. I feel exposed, and as if my personal sanctuary is being invaded. Any sudden, unexpected noise sets me on edge, and I hate it when people get too close to me, althou...

Thanks for the welcome. I enjoy social forums, makes me feel less alone. I struggle with making friends and communicating with people face to face - it consumes a lot of energy. It is less mentally taxing writing things out on forums.

I forgot to mention that I am female.
