I wasn't diagnosed until I was 40 years old. I'm super glad I did it. For me, it was a huge relief--finally, I started to make sense to myself. As I learned more about AS, it gave me some perspective on my life.

Hi Everybody When I first joined this forum, there were only about 700 members, but I haven't posted here for several years. Lately I've been feeling like a pretty huge mess and I was wondering if some kind of talking therapy might be helpful. Does anyone have an opinion about that? Also, does anyon...

I have been married for 17 years and have no kids. I tried to talk myself into it for a while, but decided I really prefer the world of grown-ups. Children don't make interesting conversation and taking care of my husband is exhausting enough. I tend to have a lot of anxiety around children and I fe...

I haven't told too many people, but I find that mostly people don't believe me. Like they think I'm making it all up or went to some kind of quack doctor. I was diagnosed as an adult and when I told my sister, she was totally hostile to the idea. Another family member now seems to want to "catch me ...

I hear voices before sleep--random, ordinary conversations that sound exactly like I'm listening in to some stranger's phone call. They are very specific and filled with details--the people who are talking seem to know each other. I never recognize the voices or the situations--it seems to have noth...

Getting diagnosed as an adult was one of the best things I've ever done. For me, it opened up a whole universe of self-knowlege and self-acceptance and I'm much better for it. I didn't get any medication or social services. I haven't told many people about it. It isn't always a happy experience, but...

Girls might make an effort to fit in more than boys do in our culture, too; there seems to be more emphasis put on encouraging boys to be ambitious and encouraging girls to be cooperative... I think it's mostly an issue of more "subtle' expression in many girls, even if they have Asperger's/autism ...

Welcome, Coded! :D Your post was very interesting. It seems like you're onto something. The headphones sound like a good idea, unless your problem is actually caused by the vibration rather than the noise. Could it also be that there is something else screwing up your sleep patterns? Like a breathin...

I have pictures streaming in my head all the time. And I guess there usually are several streams running at the same time--the thing I'm actually focused on as well as a bunch of other stuff. I enjoy it. I never thought about it being "distracting", but I guess it is to some extent. Not to the point...

Roman, You have to settle down . The point is that the example of this other girl, among countless other examples, demonstrate that I have NO CLUE how to do a small talk. Obviously you have no idea how to do small talk. You do "huge talk" instead. You talk more than anyone I've ever seen. It ...

Right on, Hale Bopp. I like the way you think. I feel that above and beyond anything Roman said or did, he's inadvertantly giving off a very superior and condecending vibe--like he is so much better than the girl that how dare she not respond. I'm sure that's not his intention, though. And I ...

As a bonafide female, let me give you a girl's perspective... I mean no offense to you. I'm sure you're a really nice guy and like all of us, you're just trying to find a way to fit into the NT world. But I'll tell you straight: Your behavior was frantic, predatory, creepy and obnoxious in the extre...

The weirdest part is how the words do still make sense in a convoluted way, at least sort of. People seem to know what I'm saying, but the way I say it must sound totally insane. It happened when I was talking to my boss recently and he just stared at me like I was from Mars. And that's the problem ...
