Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Why do we call a meltdown a meltdown ?

I also have meltdowns and shut downs and consider them good terms. My meltdowns have also resulted in the loss of friendships. I find I tend to shut down in order to try and prevent a meltdown, not sure if anyone else does that?

I am in the same position as you, last week went in and ended up getting prescribed with sertraline, though I did mention what I thought was wrong, but words came out all wrong and I didn't push the point and thought that maybe the meds would help with the anxiety, which is my biggest problem right ...

Both of mine thought i was playing games but I think it's a misscommunication between the two. There is projection involved too. Imagine a scenario where an autistic woman loves to be held or rubbed. She likes the tightness and the softness on her in certain spots when she is rubbed. She gets into ...

For me, being logical leads to a degree of certainty that others seem to find intimidating. While I like knowing what is really going on, others seem to like filling the gaps in their knowledge with their own beliefs ("God did it") or with their darkest fears and prejudices ("It's a ...

Another example: If something bad happens in my life, ( e.g. fall out with someone, something requires mending leaving me with no cash, losing something etc) I may initially get overly upset, but then very quickly move on to something else, for example get immersed in a special interest. I don't see...

I text him because when we had spoken on the phone and I couldn't get my words out properly, plus he owes me money from booking an event which I need back in order to book myself. I agree, at the point that he said that I didn't make him happy I said that I wouldn't see him again, but he has a habit...

It started as casual sex 18 months ago, but had two periods of being a couple for 6 months each. Yeah I admit that he probably has his issues, but I'm really concerned with my behaviour, I still think that I care about people, but how I go about things and word things might make it seem like I don't.

Yeah I am the same although holding hands is fine with me, but if someone tries to touch me intimately, or stroke me etc then I recoil as though being tickled. Light touch is much worse than a heavy hand. I've tended to get drunk or do drugs before the first time I have sex with someone (which obvio...

Do you think being logical makes it seem like you don't care? I can best describe this in an example. Me and my ex have had a very on and off relationship and I think many problems have been caused by my Aspergers traits and the fact that he doesn't believe I have AS. I have always said that I will ...

I am also back on after a year or so of trying (and failing) to lead a 'normal' life. I struggle with communication that is anything more than idle chit chat and people have said to me in the past "you think you are better than me" which I don't and I'm not quite sure what I said to give t...

From experience I have usually found out much later that I am not correct and have ruined things with my paranoia. BUT even with that knowledge I will still act the same again in a different situation and connect things in a way that seems to prove me right :( I'm assuming that you found out from o...

I totally agree with the fact that work expands to fill the allotted. Maybe that has been my problem, I have ended up with sundays free which I didn't used to have. In a few weeks when the weather is better here in the UK I will be down the allotment more so I suppose then I will feel better because...

I never really thought of these as stims. My last boyfriend I liked to stroke when we were in bed and I play with both my kids hair. But I stim mostly when upset/agitated/anxious and so at these points I am very much in a bubble of 'don't come anywhere near me or touch me'

This is something that I have struggled with. My boyfriend finished with me on wednesday, he thinks that he doesn't make me happy and he can't handle it when I need time out. I try really hard not to have big meltdowns, in fact I can only remember having very few in my life (mini meltdowns when thin...
