Happened to me once. It's called depersonalization or derealization. People who said it happened to them said that it was caused by a monotonous, non-eventful, seemingly non-progressing life, in any sort of way. Basically your brain decides that what it's working for is NOT worth the effort, and it...

It sounds like dissociation. There are a couple of specific kinds - derealization and depersonalization. Derealization or derealisation(UK,IE,AU,NZ) (sometimes abbreviated as DR) is an alteration in the perception or experience of the external world so that it seems unreal. Other symptoms include f...

I don't know if this is necessarily the right place to put this but I need to ask somewhere basically, over the past week or so I've had this really weird feeling that I can't quite pin down. Just now I sort of realised what it was, it's the feeling not being real... like a sort of detachment from r...

Basically, I find myself completely open, socially, when drunk. As I'm sure that many of you do. However, I don't feel it's because of a lack of inhibition, I personally feel that because I become desensitized to the world, I can actually interact with it (and people).

Hi Ametrope, your story is very similar to mine. I was diagnosed earlier this year. I agree with you, the fact that you don't have a diagnosis as a child means that you are 'pushed' into a lot of things that maybe you wouldn't have otherwise been, if you had the Aspergers diagnosis. I am pretty con...

The problem with this theory is that it doesn't take into account the recent discoveries using High Definition Fiber Tracking, the underlying mechanisms are directly related to the differential distribution of nerve fibers in the brain... I actually covered this in my "Care and Feeding of You Aspie...

Hi, Although I definitely struggle in Social situations, I also experience Empathy to a high degree. What people need to understand is that we all are Wired uniquely and an Aspie will be on a Spectrum of how mild or extreme any of their Aspie Traits will "present" or be experienced in that individu...

I came up with it on my own over a decade ago, around the time I was first diagnosed, and I have been quite gratified to see more recently that others have come to the same conclusions as I have. Basically, the fact that the DSM and other guides still define autism & AS as 'social' disorders at...

http://www.frontiersin.org/human_neuroscience/10.3389/fnhum.2010.00224/full Honestly... I just feel like this is almost perfect. I was diagnosed with AS a while back, but when I read about the symptoms (in the way that they are widely presented) and I hear people's "experiences"(quoted because a lot...

Wow I can relate to you 100%. Growing up I would constantly mimic characters in movies or tv shows or books that I found cool or attractive in some way. To the point where I feel like I modeled my personality around them. (and similarly, it even extended to physical habits, such as how I stand/walk)...

I make schedule tables and live my life according to what's on them. Hard core routine works for me. I did think of taking stuff but I generally don't like taking drugs. Supplements are fine with me. I take, uh, GNC multivitamins. Ah, in that case you're luckier than me... I do try setting up...

Same here. When I went to the psychiatrist and asked about it she told me that I didn't seem to possess a lot of ADHD traits. It was AS that caused the attention problems. With some effort I am able to focus on non special interests fairly well. Exactly! I was actually tested for ADHD/ADD before fi...

or does it just seem that way? I mean my friend (a 17 year old female from Michigan) literally went to the doctor once (and it wasn't a psychiatrist or anything) and got prescribed medication for depression straight away. I was under the impression it was a lot harder than that here (UK), or am I wr...
