I started running a few years ago, mostly as a way to shed some weight. After awhile, I converted to trail-running, and now I do it for the therapy. Also, I'm running my first ultra-marathons this year. Awesome. SoccerFreak , runners high doesn't usually start to happen until the seven or eight mile...

I've learned over the years that casual NT conversation is rarely about the subject matter itself. It's more about their need for social interaction and bonding. Agreeing with their assertions is a form of bonding. They find it reassuring - a way to keep their relationships intact. They often see a...

I think my writing is nearly as bad as my speaking. My writing is usually conceptually dense but incoherent and usually seems to read like a string of non sequiturs. I think that something will make a logical argument, but the squence is all jumbed. So, my social problems aren't much better online t...

If I could get my brain to quiet down, I'd probably enjoy lonliness a bit. I used to when I was younger, but all these years of constant chatter chatter chatter. Ugh. I got tired of hearing my interior monologue a long time ago.

I always feel alone. I can be with one person or a room full of people and I still feel alone. I feel much lonlier around groups of people. I can always feel myself shutting down, but fighting it and trying to think through all of the different scenarios that might come up and what I might say. I'l...

While I have a bunch of "normal" obsessions, for a couple of years I was obsessed with the line that separates the top of buildings and the sky. I talked about it a lot and tried to rationalize my fascination with other people. I find myself staring at them every now and then, but it was quite perva...

I'm universally feared, which always struck me as bizarre. People who get to know me learn that I'm pretty nice (despite being caustic) and I try really hard to be human. But invariably, I hear that I'm intimidating and make people uneasy. I've used this to my advantage quite a bit, but only with pe...

I have co-workers that migrate into the friend category for a short time. I get reminded by my SO that they constitute "friends" but it doesn't quite feel right. Still, I nod and agree. My SO is the only friend I've had in nearly a decade, so I'm thankful that she tolerates me. Prior to that, I had ...

And what I mean by my second to last point is that the "Asperger's is the new ADD" pressure that seems so pervasive on the web is really bogging me down. The mere fact that I've had to work exceedingly hard in order to become a moderately well-functioning member of society seems to evaporate when pe...

I tested into Mensa but never joined. I knew that there would be meetings, and the thought of potentially being in a roomful of gregarious smart people was too daunting, so I never pursued it.
