I'm calling bullsh*t there is no such thing as a cure. and what kind of fool would want to try to cure autism-oh wait yeah, the NTs, that's who. hope this guy gets arrested. needless to say, why fix what isn't broken? In all honesty, things would probably have turned out better if I hadn't been born. I really can't say I am thankful for not being aborted.

I met an Objectivist on an IRC channel who refused to acknowledge the existence of Aspergers (or any mental illness in fact). He called it an excuse by the lazy for their failure. Then he went on to dismiss schizophrenia as a "conscious rejection of reason".

Well, I would trade Aspergers for synæsthesia but I sure wouldn't want another condition in addition to Aspergers.

Oh, and Nomaken, I must say that avatar really creeps me out.

Because society is ignorant to the merits of people with AS. They only fail to live with other people who don't understand them, namely other people who don't have AS. If an AS society existed, people with AS would exist just fine. The only problem is in the kind of society that we live in--an igno...

IT MAKES ME SICK that people with ASD are forced to believe they're wrong. There's absolutely nothing to fix, nothing to heal, nothing to change except for that which broadens the minds of society to allow neurodiversity on an equal scale. It isn't simply a question of accepting differences. The fa...

I for one can't stand the term as it sounds far too trivial and childish for such a severe condition.

Evangelion is by far my favorite anime and probably my favorite show in general, maybe even one of the few I would really call a masterpiece.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, really. It has some moments, but generally, I don't go for really long series like this since I often feel they meander too much.

I would hardly say he's autistic by any stretch, just not the sharpest tool in the shed and probably way in over his head (hmm that rhymes).

It has nothing to do with learning "skills". NTs don't learn social skills. They are instinctive behaviors. Social behavior is pre-programmed as a result of evolution. Fair enough, but the point still stands otherwise. Whether you believe Aspergers can open the path to greatness for some, plenty of...

I think that Aspie citizens are a benefit to society. If you cure it, think of all the cancer researchers who will desert their labs and use their intelligence only to debate whether Brittany Spears should get custody. Come now, you can't seriously believe that all people without autism lack dedica...

Do you believe in Democracy? Well of course I do, though perhaps not as conventionally understood. As far as the existing political philosophies go, though, liberal democracy has by far the best track record when it comes to the handicapped (or those perceived as handicapped by society in any case)...
