Good point. I was just really surprised when I read the results. My older son also had the testing done a few years ago and scored 110. My younger son (the one with the poss. ASD) figures things out so much faster than his brother, I honestly thought it would be higher. :D At 2 years old he would bu... |

Hi all. :) I am taking my 8 yo son to be evaluated for developmental delays, including ASD. He had IQ testing done last year, and his full scale IQ was 96. Verbal comprehension was 100. His working memory was 18th percentile, which was low average, but he scored 95-100 on the other subtests. For mat... |

Yeah, nervous here too. It was a rough year last year, and I requested a teacher for my son. Don't know if he'll get her, but hey, I asked anyway. |

Okay. So if he were to be diagnosed, he might get extra services (already has IEP). But will that hold him back as an adult? |

My son has some features of AS but also a lot of focus/hyperactivity issues. We are getting a second opinion to narrow his diagnosis down. The first doc wanted to treat him for ADHD first before considering AS, but I'd kinda like to do it the other way 'round. So we have an appt with a neurops... |

Both of my sons have writing issues. My oldest is ADHD with poor visual-motor integration, which affects how his brain tells his hands what to write. My younger son hasn't been seen by the OT yet, but he starts out semi-neat, then gradually gets messier until it's illegible. He is being evaluated fo... |

rae rae, as for this... "Of course, this may be something that sounds ridiculous or like i'm a wuss mommy but the iron fist method doesnt work for me... it only makes it worse.... " I don't think that makes you a wuss mom at all. Not everything works for every kid. If I had a nickel for every time s... |

I think part of the problem with the patterns is he's being asked to recreate them (moderately complex) on his paper, by coloring in the shapes. He can put things together with no problem, but maybe it's getting lost in the processing... And I do understand about the open steps, etc. I wouldn't be s... |

LOL I'm definitely aware of not laying it on too thick. I have family that does that, and I have to bite my tongue to keep from rolling my eyes. I do give high fives a lot and he really likes that. I try to ignore the unwanted behaviors as much as I can and praise the wanted ones. He seems to ... |

Can someone tell me what it's like to have visual-spatial issues? My son was really good at puzzles, building train sets, etc. but had trouble with patterns at school? Is it a different concept? I don't understand why the difference in ability. :?: He also doesn't walking on open-backed steps or cli... |

Just a few things that have been running thru my head. What frustrates me the most is running into people who don't 'get it' and tell me how all my kids need is some more discipline. Those people that think it's all just an excuse for bad behavior, bad kids, bad parenting. Argh! And sin... |

Wow, 30-50 seconds! I'll keep that in mind. I wonder if that is part of the reason for shutting down at school, I imagine there is a lot of background noise along with the teacher talking... Thanks! |

Is this a common ASD problem? We are working on a diagnosis for my 7 yo son, the school mentioned ADHD and AS/PDD-NOS. I'm leaning towards the AS myself... Anyway, he scored average on most subtests, but auditory processing was in the 19th percentile. I'm thinking that could either be a focus issue,... |

Hi All, As a parent awaiting a diagnosis on my son for aspergers, I honestly can say I hate labels, I know asd's are labelled but once the label goes on thats how people refer to your child, "oh yeah the kid with issues". On the flipside, i was a parent who was thrilled with the "label" because tha... |
