Did you break up resently?
If that is the case, it may explain why you feel more sensitive now, specially after a toxic relationship.
Even when you have had bad experiences, not all the people are mean.
Try to focus on healing, its easier to relate to people when you feel well.

im NT and avoid looking directly to the eyes (i look at the bridge of the nose or under the eyes so people will not notice) because im afraid about how people could react to my words. first days are usually hard (for NT too). You will get used to the new environment. About socialization, if your job involves working directly with people, try to work on your social abilities. If not, limit to the basics: say hi to your coworkers, join them for lunch, help them when needed, etc

Try to find someone with similar interests. Maybe at online games or at Gen Con (if you can manage the social anxiety)

I have had similar experiences with my NT friends, true friends will always stay by your side. Don´t mind the others, it is painful at the beginning, but then you will be glad to be out of that problems.
