Thanks Beebee. I think you are right about the other issues at play. Mim has always been "quirky", as you might expect, but it is only in the last year that she has become so unhappy. Maybe part of it is caused by the frustrations her different brain has to deal with, but I wonder if there is someth... |

Beebee, your response made me cry. I don't have the words to express why, so I will settle for saying: Thank-you, with all my heart. Your words for Mim are perfect, and I will use them. I think some of the confusion regarding Mim in this thread maybe my fault. As she doesn't have a diagnosis, and ha... |

I think it is really positive that she wants to go back, her complaint is the lady is too nice, and she was able to speak about what bothers her and that she feels confused. If she tells the lady this stuff, that will let her get to know your daughter and maybe even help her help your daughter find... |

When do they have to wake up in the morning? We used to have to wake him up at 6:45 A.M, now we can let it go until 7:00 A.M. That brain shutting-off thing is hard. I still have trouble. I think that is also why my son has to talk to himself and play with his fingers at night. I think he needs to w... |

I think it must be a bit different in the UK, and bedtimes are generally earlier. Lamb, at 4, goes to bed at 6:30pm, and Mim, at 8, goes to bed at 7:30pm, and this is about average I believe. I think we may have to raise Mim's to 8pm next year. Now when they go to sleep is a whole different ball gam... |

I am sorry. I would think it might take more than one visit to see, so her liking the room might be a way to see if she will try again. I honestly do not know what I would do in your place. Did the therapist talk to you in private about any of this? Does she have a specific game plan? Does she say ... |

Well, we went. Unmitigated disaster would be over stating it - but it wasn't a success. She doesn't want to talk to her. She doesn't like her - she's too nice. She did speak today, because she felt it was rude to just ignore her. She doesn't want to though. She doesn't want to go in school time beca... |

Thank you for your reply Aspie1, and for sharing you're experience of therapy. I have explained to Mim that her time with the lady is confidential, and that the only time that the lady would tell anyone anything without Mim's permission - including to me or Daddy - would be if she was concerned that... |

Thanks for you great advice Eureka-C, it was well thought out and very helpful. I told her this evening and followed your advice. I haven't used the words "counselling" or "therapy" though as I don't want her googling and coming up with misconceptions. Instead I have told her she is going to see a l... |

Thanks for the reply. The counselor is experienced with assisting children with Aspergers and anxiety, and hopefully that will cover her main difficulties. As for going for a diagnosis - I'm not sure. I know the counselor wouldn't be able to give her one. As we're in the UK she has been referred to ... |

Hi Everyone, I'm usually a bit of a lurker I admit, and often pick up bits of advice just by reading because to be honest; I have no idea whether I'm doing the right thing a lot of the time. My 8 year old daughter has enough autistic traits that we think, as does our GP, that she's has an ASD. Howev... |

Mim's never been bothered by labels scratching, but she'll only wear 1 style of shoe, and hates tops that have short sleeves. Her cuffs are constantly disgusting, but anything else "fells funny". I generally don't worry, although the refusal to wear trainers, and insisting on wear Mary-Janes to plac... |

Its nice you live in a state like that. Ours requires more than 20 (recommends about 30) by the time you go to pre-k (here, age of 4), including chicken pox. I find the chicken pox vaccine and mandatory requirements for it absurd. It has a death rate of .0023%. Your child is more likely to die in a... |

All of these children are amazing. Mim is 8 and speed reads, usually when in bed at night. She can get through 1 and a half children sized books between bedtime and actually going to sleep each night. Like CWA I didn't believe she could of read them and quizzed her. She put me well and truelove in m... |
