gonewild: LOVE the blog.

You guys have probably already read it (I'm always late to the party), but I'm reading The Philosophy of Autism -Jami L. Anderson , Simon Cushing. I cannot recommend this book enough....

Do you all have such gifts or interests that set you apart? Am I the only one who doesn't? Or maybe I just don't see it? How would I know? I have so many questions. Any input or insights would be helpful. Thanks I know that I don't have the gifts, per se, but I certainly do have the tendency to fix...

Hi Gonewild, thanks for searching the info for us about the 80 ms. It's quite interesting. I think part of the delay between visual and sound when observed by Aspies is due to weak executive functioning which causes difficulties to multitask. i.e. listening and visualisation is multi-tasking. For m...

Found this in a Scientific American physics blog: Describes what's NORMAL By means of several visual illusions, he demonstrated that we are all living in the past: Our consciousness lags 80 milliseconds behind actual events. “When you think an event occurs it has already happened,” Eagleman said. I...

This quote resonated with me as well when I first read the book earlier this year. It was one of many passages that I highlighted (while reading the book, I highlighted anything that closely matched my experiences and behavioral symptoms). I found the book so fascinating (it so aptly described me a...

Wow! You too - I always thought I was being kind of an ass - like I was picking on the poor person... I know there's a sound vs. visual speed lag, but it's only supposed to be noticeable when objects are far away. Filmakers have to adjust the soundtrack to the image. Could we be picking up on that?...

YES! Like the sound is milliseconds off from the visual?-or something like that. I experience that too. I never thought to scroll down the page for youtube- great idea!

Hi guys, I finally received Attwood's book (The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome) and am finding it very interesting. hiwaychile (welcome!), I found a quote that you may or may not have already come across in the book: “The reader will be interested to know that I have discovered a means of rem...

Good point, gonewild. Of course we are not 12 year olds, but there does need to be some form of moderator on any forum. Internet trolls are abundant and they tend to target people who are hurting and just want to talk to others like themselves. They actually enjoy it, from what I understand. It just...

All I have to say about caring for / about people is: Integrity = think, say, act in harmony. It doesn't matter how you are labeled. Do you think about how your actions will affect other people? Is what you say a true prediction of your actions? Do you observe the results of what you say and do, an...

Interesting perspective, greeneyes. I find most of what you said quite poetic and beautiful, though I am having difficulty interpreting how you perceived what I said as incompatible with what you said (that's probably my misreading of it.) I was merely trying to get some clarification as to why I ha...

I agree that many of the so-called symptoms of Aspergers are non-medical social judgments on the part of the social majority. Words are subject to changing definitions, confusing definitions, and definitions that don't refer to anything that is "real." People are often talking about completely diff...

Well, for most of my life I insisted that it is impossible for any being to truly experience empathy since 2 objects/beings cannot occupy the same space at the same time. It is not possible in the realm of physics to experience "true" empathy. The best response to this is that empathy is contrasted ...

I have a hard time figuring out what is actually genuine, though schnozzles. It kind of has to be screaming in my face to catch my radar when it comes to other people's emotions. So, sadly, I have to rely on words and truthfulness in people's statements which I have not found to be particularly genu...
