Seems overly dramatic. Your son has Asperger's, not cancer. I completely agree. And I am new. I mean, I am new to the forum and new to Autism. And my kid (my first born, the one with Autism) is new to the world (he's 2.5 yo). So I am also still considered a new mom. And with all of this being said,... |

Great suggestions - thank you for replying everyone. If ToM is related to pretend play and vice versa (which I don't doubt it is bc it does make sense that it would be)...then again, my kid incredibly confusing to me. He has exceptionally strong ToM for his age, which is by itself kind of crazy, rig... |

Hi All, Our son is now almost 2.5 years old (diagnosed as HFA, or whatever that means this early anyway, at 21 months). Currently quite verbal at or above age expected level. What we struggle the most with is pretend play. He just gets super overstimulated by following "complex" play schemes/sequenc... |

I had no idea they are supposed to pretend to be other things/people. So if his favorite thing is cars, should I pretend to be a car and see if he’d copy me? I am totally up for it just wanted to make sure that’s what you are suggesting. Otherwise, he is pretty good at copying. He will see us do som... |

Maybe consider whether anything has changed recently that might be increasing stress levels?? This seems like a good point to me and I had to think really hard if anything has been stressing him out lately and besides a minor cold, I can't think of anything in his environment that has changes or ma... |

Will he let you control one of them while he controls another? Yes, he actually encourages this. He doesn't ever want to play alone, we always get pulled over (the house has been a complete mess in the last 2 months, iykwim ) Move on to see if he lets you put a figurine in the car you control. We c... |

OK, wow, now I am feeling even more confused and a little defensive, I must say. As I said, we are SO very new to this and just trying to make sense of it all. Maybe we are failing, judging by your comments I'd say we are but we are trying, trust me! I see everybody's point and I do appreciate your... |

ASDMommyASDKid, thank you for the explanation - I do see a lot of logic to what you are saying. And yes, he is currently doing parallel play with his peers at daycare and I guess his shadows are trying to initiate some associative play with his peers - not sure how successful this has been so far bu... |

How do you redirect or get him/her to accept this type of play. Why are you trying to control the way your child thinks? If he doesn't like people figures, he doesn't like them. Is this some sort of Behavioral Therapy Psychological Torture, in which non-conformity to your template is unacceptable? ... |

ASDMommyASDKid, I forgot to also say, I am not sure that he can articulate the "why" of why he doesn't want the toy people in the vehicles/houses, etc. He is 24 months old and just started gaining language ( mostly single words). |

It is both a concern of ours as well as of his BCBA. Not sure why the BCBA has taken an issue with it but for us, the parents, it just seem anti-social, kind of, sort of and this scares us - I guess we are very new to this and quite confused. Why would he such a problem with little toy people...and ... |

Hello All, I am the mom of a 24 month old boy who has in the last 2 months been diagnosed with PDD-NOS or ASD. He seems to be cognitively ahead of his peers and receptive language is great. He is quickly gaining speech as he undergoes intense ST, whereas 2 months ago (before he was diagnosed), he ha... |
