There may also be a nutritional element to consider. If one considers that most of our food is grown on fields that have had most of the micronutrients and minerals depleted years ago and only replace with nitrogen and phosphorous, it would be a good idea to supplement with vitamins with minerals ge... |

Many people marry and have a sort of Hallmark expectation of family life and children. When you consider that we are all born ignorant, selfish, and helpless, it is curious how strong these expectations can be. I would consider this to be an average level of parental disappointment. I suspect that m... |

Aspergers may simply be a neurological variant. A few years ago it was reclassified as a sort of autism. Classical autism was the result of brain damage or malformation. What is now called a spectrum may actually be a collection of disparate unrelated conditions. |

There are some actions people take to give them a sense of control. OCD, self harm, even eating disorders such as anorexia can be pursued in an attempt to alleviate anxiety by generating a compensating feeling of control. It might be helpful to help your son navigate these waters intentionally such ... |

You might not be able to "tell" him anything, but you might engage him by questioning. If you can get him to respond to questions such as asking what strategies he plans on using to address the problems he sees, you might begin to draw him into a perspective where he sees things in terms o... |

Sometimes we have to choose a path in life of total disconnection from others or some degree of social integration. The isolated life can find a preoccupation with consumption. However, this life tends to find consumption a hunger that is never satisfied. The alternative can be small steps to social... |

There used to be an elastic strap one could attach to the ends of glasses that ran over the back of the head. I don't know if it is still available, but it night give more of a feeling of security. |

By living a more intentional life (as opposed to more reflexive) one tends to evaluate rules in terms of their applicability. This may result in less rule following if the rule is determined to be one not worth following. |

Laws are only as effective as people choose to obey them. The Roman army had the death penalty for theft, yet two of them were still stealing 2,000 years ago. If you want to increase the odds of your daughter remaining pure, you might consider homeschool and avoid sending her to college. Many freshm... |

I dropped out of high school so I never had a traditional academic interest. Before I dropped out I took what I was told was an IQ test. It was multiple choice. I decided to answer the questions randomly. I was told that I had an IQ of 12. I don't think that they told everyone their result. I imagin... |

timf, I joined Mensa in 1981. I used to attend AGs and a few RGs...but backed off after COVID. Have you been to many AGs? If so, perhaps our paths have crossed. I lived in Houston then and pretty much kept to the local involvement. I have fond memories and learned to expand my social skills somewhat... |

I once attended a technical training session with a guy that had retired from the Navy as a radio chief. We were playing cards in his hotel room with the TV on in the background. A scene came on where someone was supposed by be sending Morse Code. The ex-chief's attention was instantly turned to te ... |

I have not heard of this sort of "therapy". However, if the result is a "profile", it sounds like you would be paying someone to defined your sensory abilities more than aid you in mastering them. It seems there are two ways to deal with sensory issues, decrease sensory volume in... |

I joined Mensa over 40 years ago and observed that most of us seemed to have chosen to avoid social immersion in high school and were only then (in our 20s and 30s) beginning to experiment with social encounters. Since IQ is a measure of several different neurological processes, one might conclude t... |
