The pro-lifers have been very skillful in manipulating this issue, but remember: on the day of reckoning, the serpent's food will be dust. Their dirty politics will catch up to them. In the meantime, let's try to get the focus on what this issue is really all about, so perhaps one more person's hop...

But by having a child with such different mannerisms and interests than herself, she is opened up to a new way of thinking and doing things, which is a gift in itself.

I have dyscalculia and AS. I just wish I had known when I was in school :/

If you feel like you need a formal DX then I'd go for it, but it sounds to me like you probably have it. From what you wrote, I have the same difficulties as you do.

I got a 126, which I am fine with, but I don't think it correctly measures my intelligence because of my learning disabilities. It was a timed test, and I am slow at processing information.

Sometimes I "zone out" and don't talk or really move around much, but it's because I'm hyperfocusing on something and don't want to turn my attention elsewhere. Other people might think I'm being lazy, but that's just their perception. My mind is never lazy.

I'm sorry you had to go through all this. Like you said, in the future, look for a professional who is used to dealing with Pervasive Developmental Disorders. I got really lucky, because the Autism Resource Center in my state is right down the street from me and the director of it evaluated me (and ...

I have had similar reactions many times. You're not alone. If it's not working for you, don't do it.

I have had several run-ins with the police, mostly when I was younger. The worst was when they handcuffed me and took me to the station for walking outside at 10:15pm. Granted there was a curfew (10pm) and I was 15 at the time, but I was right across the street from my house. I also didn't know ther...

It is so hard for an Aspie to be accustomed to hospital life, only to be released into the "real" world again. I went through it when I was younger, and didn't really want to be released. Sometimes I still wish I could go back to the hospital, but I have managed to make it and I sincerely hope you c...

Though my assistance is limited, reading this thread makes me realize how lucky I am. I live right next to an Autism Resource Center that has social groups for adults with AS. They also do evaluations (they did mine) for people on the Autism Spectrum no matter how old they are. I'm assuming if I eve...

I can relate. Once I was at the mall and hyperfocusing so much on walking toward a rack of Hello Kitty items (one of my obsessions) that I completely missed the girl on the floor next to me having a diabetic seizure. My boyfriend said I practically stepped over her.

If the doctor thinks you need it, you probably need it. Don't feel guilty. This is what disability is for - to help people like you. Maybe you won't need it for a really long time, but right now you do, so use it!

Oh jeez.. I can relate to this. I can think of numerous times when I have painfully explained the evolutionary advantage of...well... anything.
