I'd welcome funding in to research if it was useful research, but the vaccine theory is like trying to flog a dead horse. I'm not satisfied that there has been a particular increase in children with autism either - I'd guess it is more of an increase in diagnoses.

I'm on the laptop today, so here's mine: http://stevecoates.net/stuff/laptop_desktop_26022025.jpg Its a ThinkPad T420 running Windows 7, with an upgraded 1920x1080 display. edit: For some reason it doesn't like the embedded image, so here's the link: http://stevecoates.net/stuff/laptop_desktop_26022...

This topic is a few years old now, and I'd say they do less than they used to. It was around the time this topic started that they stopped doing the Asperger United magazine for free. I didn't bother taking the paid for version as I had no income at the time. They have also stopped their helpline. I...

I wouldn't say they are particularly generous. Some people do better out of the system than others. It is very circumstantial. e.g. I know someone who was homeless for quite a while. He got higher rate PIP (both care and mobility) and higher rate ESA. He quite happily used this to pay for clothes, m...

I find him obnoxious. I also don't like how he promotes homeopathy.

steve30, if you go swimming with contacts in but no goggles on, won't they float away? I don't know for sure because I never went swimming with contacts in. If they float away, that could be very inconvenient if you can't see without them. Hmm. Not sure. Probably. But you would have to have your ey...

Never been to one myself. Someone did try and get me to go to an autism youth club when I was 20 which I objected to. I politely declined stating that I was far too old for a youth club... But of course that doesn't matter because if you have special needs it turns out you don't grow up until you ar...

Thanks.

Keeping busy is always my preferred way of dealing with things, but quite often I don't have the energy or the enthusiasm.

Something to point out - Some people find contact lenses really easy to get stated with, and some don't. When I first tried them years ago it took several visits to the optician to practise. That in mind, if you are a bit anxious about it and think you might struggle, it would be worth going to an i...

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for getting through the day when depressed. I listen to loud music through headphones to try and take my mind off things. I eat too much crap. I try and read stuff on the internet and watch videos etc but I can't concentrate. I over do it on the sleeping pills a...

I use the daily disposables. They are good for bicycling, gym, walking etc. I also used to use them for swimming many years ago. Some opticians don't recommend this but if you use disposables then you should be fine. I don't swim any more though.

I work in disability services, where "person first language" is very much the desired terminology, so I generally use "has autism / person with autism / on the spectrum." I'm studying for a grad certificate in autism studies, and the current preferred term seems to be "indi...

They mean the exact same thing, so I never used to care.

Nowadays though I'd say I prefer 'has autism' because 'autistic' has been adopted by people who think we all have an 'autistic identity'.
