Depends on who I'm with. When I'm with people I consider decent, language use doesn't matter. But there are some people here who hear the word 'autistic' and immediately plasters every single ugly stereotype the media perpetuates on me or whoever they're talking about and then they make jokes using ...

I was lucky enough to hear Nancy Silberkleit present about Scarlet at a conference today. I really loved what she said about using comics as a way to change the world. Someone mentioned today (I can't remember who because my brain was so overloaded) that positive representation in the media helps pr...

Dear everyone in my life, I don't know what's happened to me either. I don't know why I am always feeling angry, sad, isolated, even more so than I used to. And I used to feel plenty of that. I don't know why things are suddenly so hard. I am turning 30 and I thought it was going to be one big joyou...

I've had one extension already when I took some time off school because I couldn't cope without access to medication or care. I still don't have access but I've got to graduate some how. Disability support is offering me a session with a counsellor where I asked to talk about discussing how long I s...

Thanks btbnnyr, for all the suggestions. I'm feeling a bit more demoralized. I just got feedback on my work again (2 months to deadline!!) and I've done a significant chunk wrong. Again. I realize I don't understand anything about it, to be honest. I've reviewed taught material over and over again. ...

I got into a taught postgraduate programme two years ago and I thought it was so awesome. Because wow, I failed terribly in high school, now I can get into graduate school. And after years of refusing to get a diagnosis despite constant nagging by my psychologist who suspected I had ADHD, I went to ...

Mine was a bit of a blur with the occasional traumatic event. There are spots of my childhood I remember clearly but they're all of traumatic stuff that happened to me or nightmares. The rest of it, I felt like I went through the motions of stuff without any clear understanding. I went to a mainstre...

I'd like to know if anyone else has major sleep issues and what you do to try and make it better. I've always had bouts of terrible insomnia from childhood, according to my mom, I was a "sleep for an hour, scream for an hour" kind of newborn as well. It seems to be getting worse or affecting me wors...

When I first rented a room in an apartment, I really freaked. What helped me was to think of what I hated about my parents' house and why, then recreating a sanctuary of sorts in my rented place. I ended up with a room which had a wardrobe to hold my clothes, a waste paper basket, a mattress on the ...

All my life and it affects relationships now. When I get upset with my partner or over something, my first thing to say is that maybe he should go find a neurotypical woman. I feel like I'm inferior in a ways, social skills, looks (although people consider me attractive), being smart in the 'right' ...

I finally have a...thing from my psychiatrist along the lines of "has the triad of impairments with sensory issues but no diagnosis due to lack of developmental history". I don't even know what to call that. When it was first suggested I be tested, I'd been suspected of having ADHD for three years a...

Me too. I just started the Wilbager(?) Brushing protocol to deal with the sensations. Its not been sanctioned by an OT or supervised by one, but it helped stave off quite a few panic attacks from the sensations. Its probably not OT approved but eh, it works.

I noticed that when we bought our house and I was faced with an impending wedding, a new job, studying for my master's degree and, as people like to tell me, "[my] life finally coming together", everything got worse. I have meltdowns about three times a week now, or not, if I have to deal with contr...

Cathylynn, omg that's the same! I hate the spooky pressure and it hurts me a lot. My skin also 'remembers' by sending the sensations through it randomly. I absolutely cannot have needs near the centre of my body. Its still bad further away from me but not as bad. I feel invaded anyway as long as its...
