At the very least, it sounds like you have some very AS-like tendencies. Now, the question is: what do you want to do about it now that you've been "diagnosed"? Are you ok with your social skills being held back to avoid seeing a mental health professional? I was right there with you - avoiding shri... |

Sometimes verbal communication is hard for me too, especially when it involves intense feelings. It's definitely important that your parents know what's going on with you, but to be able to communicate something hard like what's going on inside you, you're going to need to be able to get a handle on... |

You don't necessarily need to find someone with a PhD (psychologist) or MD (psychiatrist) to get a diagnosis. You can be a certified mental health professional and be a nurse or have a masters. The important thing is that whoever you see for a diagnosis is familiar with AS. Not all clinicians (healt... |

Here's another rationalization tool I really like: Think about the specific stuff that's upsetting you right now. Is is something that will bother you in a week? A month? A year? The rest of your life? I'm pretty sure that at least one of those is "no". That means it's not THAT big of a deal. That m... |

I find that the Aspie predeliction towards making a decision and not going back on it can be useful in this kind of a situation. Resolve that you'll make a rule not to do it. Maybe tell a close friend about it and ask her/him to hold you to it. Maybe even set up some consequences for yourself - prom... |

I find it really helpful to write down lists of things when I've got too much in my head. Then I figure out what I can do something about in the short term, because I find that doing ANYTHING, even if it's just a teensy tiny baby step, towards solving my problems feels infinitely better than doing n... |

Here's two better questions:
What are you, the poster, looking for in a woman?
What do you think are the best things about your personality you have to offer a woman?
If we start there, I might be able to provide some advice. |

Congratulations on the girlfriend, and I echo LadyCass' words of encouragement. Now high school was 10 years ago for me, but in my expeirence, most 9th and 10th graders are not the most emotionally mature people in the world. I'm guessing not much has changed. You can't really force them to stop, so... |

I love Wikipedia because not only can I spend hours just randomly clicking, but I can connect the most random subjects together. There is the "six degrees of wikipedia" site that does it for in six moves or less, but actually tracing it yourself is fun. I just traced "economics" to "Steven Spielbur... |

Aubre, Hang in there, champ. There are people who care about you and things will get better. I've had that "life is falling apart" feeling myself, so I can relate. Right now, you need to get better so that you can take care of yourself, so you can, in turn, take care of your wife and kid. When thing... |
