I like that CS Lewis quote. I have a deep love and fondness for his work! I think you are right on that being the reason for the popularity. If I knew more about Aspergers in women prior, I might not have appreciated this as much. I also have it on my Nook (e-book) that's how I've gotten all of mine...

It's like saying diabetics prefer not eating sweets.

This resonated with me *so much* tonight.

I like the book, but obviously not as scientific evidence, only as a bouncing off point. It has helped me accept that there are others out there like me and since she gives lots of differing view points, I don't feel like she's shoving us into one giant category. I am not an athiest, so I connect on...

Sounds to me like you are injecting them with a dose of reality, which is far more valuable than people trying to shove EVERYONE in the same teeny hole. Good job! :)

What are you teaching? I agree the system needs a change, but you are wrong to say what you are teaching is not valuable. It is highly valuable. I bet you will be a "professor" those students remember for the rest of their lives. I know I have a special place in my heart for the professors I had tha...

Thank you! I think we probably have similar parenting strategies. I am normally pretty "hands on" with the kids and really do try to incorporate them into what I'm doing. I find that lately (since my husband has been gone, unfortunately) I have less and less patience for it. They do very much want m...

We do actually order from Azure Standard (online grocery type) but I tend to need to see it in my face before I can really judge what I need?? Kinda crazy, I'm sure. There really isn't a support network anywhere. Our family is not uber helpful (uhhh, really not helpful at all) and live in various pa...

Thank you for understanding! Our girls are in school all week (although this coming week is spring break, and I think I am having a lot of anxiety over it, because they all want to go do something) and my little guy goes to a sitter 3 days/week so I can do my physical therapy, PTSD therapy and 1 day...

I need help. Tonight I am losing it-and it's about to be ugly if some little people don't be quiet for the love... For some background, I am a mom of 3 in my early 30's. Our 5-year-old is PDD-NOS with SID. We just started this whole cycle of therapy for her and for me (PTSD) and the kids are in scho...

OP I hope you are finding some comfort by this time. Is your husband still deployed? Mine is currently deployed as well. We have had 2 miscarriages. The first was immediately followed by the pregnancy of our PDD daughter and the 2nd we found out had passed 1 day after my husband's vasectomy. Both we...

Sexual selection has a negative effect on society far beyond selecting for any other characteristic. Just look at the communities in China and India where it is rife. The negative utility of sexual selection is enormous; selecting for autism, on the other hand, is probably more likely to have a pos...

They sure can! Even if their research comes to something fruitful (which I highly doubt it ever could) how would a parent know whether or not the child's quality of life would be poor?? Myself and my daughter would have popped up as "autistic" with some genetic testing, but our lives are far from la...

I was just diagnosed a couple weeks ago and the responses have been so hilarious to me. My mom said, "You are not stupid! You never were stupid! You were just lazy." uhhh, okay. Skewed perception much? My brother says, "wow...that's a pretty daunting diagnosis." huh?? prognosis is grim, Jim. My teen...

I have *really* enjoyed "Look Me in the Eye" and "Aspergirls." I'm hoping to also read "Pretending to be Normal" and some books by Temple Grandin. I am eating this stuff up. I had never read a book that described the way I understand things and it's exciting to me!

sexually abused as a child for many years by a family member and then raped as an adult. I have never been unafraid to walk around, but I also suffer PTSD, so that could be a part of it. I would like to say I am pretty tuned in to when a situation could get dangerous, but again, I learned at a young...
