I have both...was diagnosed with NVLD as a child, ASD as a young adult. I think my NVLD is the greater stumbling block in all honesty...I can't do STEM because of it. And it seems that's where the jobs are... I know what you mean. I wanted to be an engineer when I was a kid, but as soon as I starte... |

I have both essentially NVLD has to do with a split in the IQ profile where Verbal IQ (VIQ) is a standard deviation or more higher than Performance IQ (PIQ). It is a cognitive profile so it can be present in both autistics and non autistics kind of like how dyslexia can occur in both populations. Th... |

Stim toys and fidget things are always nice. Stimtastic.co has good examples of those. If the kid is old enough gift cards especially if there is a store, video game, or restaurant they really like. If you're going to go for clothes go for something soft, tagless, and not scratchy. |

The same thing happened to me. I took 2 AP's Sophomore year 4 AP's Junior year and 2 AP's Senior year. I got sick toward the end of Sophomore year with Mono (I don't eat/drink after or kiss anyone). The doctor said that it looked like I had had Mono some time before too but that I must have just tho... |

Can I ask firemonkey, what makes you think it's not ASD? I was originally diagnosed with just NVLD but I felt my autistic traits were being dismissed. I went to someone that specializes in Autism and I have now been diagnosed with both ASD and NVLD. I would like to hear from someone with a sort of o... |

I smiled and laughed as a baby and toddler. I've always been very tender-headed and disliked tags/seams in clothes touching me but I liked being hugged/held. Still love hugs! |

Maybe send them an ASD checklist/list of signs and see what resonates. My family wouldn't have known what to say without some kind of list because prior to they thought the things were just my personal quirks/weirdness. Anything they can say about social/relationship things, sensory oddities, intens... |

Yes, I deal with this too. If I am hot, for example, out in intense sun, my whole back starts itching. Also my itches tend to last for a long time, like I will often have an itch in the same spot for a week or more. |

Yeah I was worried too. I knew that I was different and I didn't want to have to go back to square one of searching for what it was. I was worried that I would mask too well and that it wouldn't be noticed. I remember asking my assessor should I respond the way I would in social situations or the wa... |

I'd say 4 but that's really just memorizing the song. I am still not great at alphabetizing things. |

Do you have to use an existing fairytale or can you create your own fairytale like story? The one potential story that comes to mind is The Princess and the Pea which isn't exactly autism but is very reminiscent of Sensory Process Disorder. The fact that she can't sleep because of something no one e... |

I am a fairly extreme visual thinker. A fact thinker is often called a verbal/fact thinker meaning that they think in words and facts. I am one. |
