I've had close to 30 surgeries, 27 to be exact, on my back for chronic kidney stones. They are to say the least, unsightly. Most are just from holes the size of a pencil, but my first two surgeries were done back when Dr's didn't understand my condition so they were a little too aggressive. It left ...

Time to necro my own thread. I've been away for a while. Do you think your father may be on spectrum? He most likely is, and his father probably was too. Do you think your father may be on spectrum? That's what I was thinking too. I've had a lot of sets of family members who don't get along because ...

From start to finish, I had an official diagnosis in less than 2 weeks. After many hospital stays in the Behavioral Health Unit, and not much help long term, I basically diagnosed myself. The next time I was hospitalized, I told them I thought I has Asperger's. Two days later a specialist showed up ...

My poor handwriting was first pointed out to me in fourth grade by my English teacher. I was forced to stay in during lunch and after school to "practice" for the whole year. It was pretty traumatic to say the least. Well, I'm 31 now and my handwriting hasn't changed since fourth grade. My...

I was born a male and am happy being a male. However, I don't think it has anything, or much at all, to do with my identity. My gender has nothing to do with my identity in my opinion. I actually have wondered before if people that place too much emphasis on their gender being part of their identity...

I'm 30. I've been forced/manipulated in to moving within about a mile of my dad by his choice with great reluctance. When I invited him over to the group home I was living in at the time to present my diagnosis and concerns to him, he could not have been less interested, or more disrespectful in my ...

I will try not to ramble on too much and I'll try to get right in to it. My father has shown zero interest in my issues. He demands unconditional respect although seems to give me very little to none. The more I stand up for myself, the more he puts me down and calls me stupid in his own words. he s...

no jeans for me! I have always hated them with a passion. I was forced to wear them several times and I hated it. For as long as I can remember, I've only worn Dickies pants.

I had a long and slow crash and burn over the course of years in to my recent adult diagnosis of Asperger's. It rapidly picked up in speed from the time of diagnosis as I try to come to turns with finally finding out why I always felt and acted different from most people. I feel like I've lost most ...

Since you are a legal adult, I strongly recommend you get tested. You also have the right to know the results of any testing that was done while you were a child. If and once you get a formal diagnosis, sit down with your parents and inform them of it. Try to not be confrontational about it. I think...

I often wear headphones with music in public. If I walk by a construction area and there's a jackhammer or some other loud noise I have to physically plug my ears or I can't even manage walking.

I'm in a partial hospitalization program and met this girl I really like. Part of me wants to come out and say it to her. That route hasn't gone very well in the past but I wonder if it's me or them. I haven't asked her out on a date or anything like that. Should I start with something like that? We...
