This is probably a daft question, but I am not a technically adept individual! |

My son is doing the practical component of his FSW course, so he is finished in 3 weeks. He is hoping to find work after this. He still does the paper route to keep up an employment record. Believe me, I would LOVE for him to be able to quit that one. It breaks my heart to see him work so hard for a... |

Hi, Guilmum here. My initial posting certainly provoked some interesting dialogue. I will try the books mentioned above, the concept sounds intriguing. For those who wanted to know more about S. He graduated from high school in 2011 & attended a community college away from home for a year.(he ce... |

You are probably right. I did assume the judgement. It was a misinterpretation on my part. Perhaps I have more AS traits than I thought. I tend to be rather uptight about anything to do with my son. My husband, our daughter & I have made some sacrifices for S & I heard criticism where there ... |

This is a message for Willard. I'm using this forum to state my concerns & seek advice. When I suggested that my son might be lazy it was a way of ventilating my worries in a safe environment. I know he is not lazy & I resent that you accused me of not understanding the autistic brain. That ... |

Thanks for the advice. I think my sons problem is that he fears he will fail if he tries & things don't work out. It isn't a low self esteem thing but I think he is truly terrified of having to speak to others & stand up for himself. Any ideas on why he won't even research things? We ask him... |

When I read your post it was like reading my son's bio. He is now 20. He is an extreme loner but doesnt care. He has always got on better with adults. He quotes lines from British TV shows & has a hilarious sense of humor. He never struggled at school despite doing no homework, but struggled whe... |

How can I encourage my 20 year old son to follow through on making job enquiries, volunteer options etc. He just doesn't do it unless I nag. He struggles with social skills but doesn't even want to email or read up on anything, even nice things like movie listings. Consequences don't work as he eith... |

Thanks Everyone. I have heard some great advice & ideas. I am exploring some options for data entry courses, but there do not seem to be many that suit the purpose. There only seem to be online courses & not sure how this would work. My son did attend an entire session of job training throug... |

Thanks for the suggestion. Where would I go to find a job in data entry?
He has done a college course to work within a kitchen in a healthcare setting eg hospital or nursing home. He would not survive in a fast paced restaurant setting. He also has a real interest in food (and eating it too)! |

My 20 year old son has applied for numerous jobs, mostly in Food Service Worker category. He has yet to even receive an interview. Anyone know of an organization in Toronto who hires Aspies, or of a good website for finding jobs for those on the spectrum? He is generally nonverbal but is extremely p... |
