Do you think that means that I am not on the spectrum then League girl? I would be interested to hear other people's opinions. There are a lot of stereotypical autistic traits which I feel don't apply to me. I refused to talk to my counsellor about it initially as I felt it was another box I didn't ...

How do people here interact with other people? Do you have to make people be direct with you or do you have coping strategies to help you figure things out? I have a million questions I want to ask here but I am just trying to figure them out in my head. Background: I am 32 and recently it has been ...

I hate the word hobby, I find it patronising. Hobbies are basically just doing stuff. Some people like doing the same stuff over and over to the extent that they get to call it a hobby, which is just another word for something they do. But it has a slightly derogatory tone, like it is something we d...

I don't mind you asking questions :) I gave up smoking when I gave up drinking, and I used nicotine lozenges and gum for a week or so just to ease the transition. But really I adhere to Allan Carr's approach, y'know, the guy who wrote the 'easy way to stop smoking permanently' book. He totally chang...

Welcome Elvira :) I recently got diagnosed and I am 32 with occasional bouts of depression. I felt like that most of the time though it's just sometimes it was worse than others. Although it can be a lot to take on board and learn about I am sure it will be helpful to you to have a diagnosis to work...

Glad you're keeping busy :) You can talk about whatever you want with your therapist. I talk about things I am having difficulty with, mainly relationships at the moment, but we will be moving on to work and general functioning stuff. I feel like he just lets me know if I am doing things right or no...

Yeah I am fairly proud about the drinking thing, it's been over 2 years now :) You will find too that it takes some adjusting to sober living, even from weed. Have you thought about counselling at all? Maybe not now but in the future. When I see my therapist I feel a little saner everytime I come ou...

Hey Rob. Okay, I may not be the best person to talk about how to deal with people, but I'll be honest, I have never had much success reaching out to friends and family. Either they are in denial and just want me to be okay, or they don't actually care, or think I am over reacting or something, but w...

Thanks Rob, it sounds like you are in a fairly similar situation to me. I know a good recovery site if you are interested... PM me x

And auntblabby, my distracting word is now 'donkeyballs'. It makes me giggle so that helps me snap out of it, though I am no expert at that yet...

Thanks for your responses :) That is really good advice AuntBlabby :) My physical health is pretty good now. I had alcoholic neuropathy when I stopped drinking and that has pretty much cleared up now. I also stopped smoking when I quit and a year later got landed with a little rescue dog who I swear...

Hi everyone, I am new here and have recently been told I probably am on the autistic spectrum. I just wanted to chat to other people and get some feedback on my situation so I can try and start figuring it all out. Basically, the reason this came about is that I recently started seeing a therapist, ...
