Sweden: Like if someone has a cold they'd only be allowed to take x number of days even if they're still sick? That's dumb.

Clones: Have you seen Orphan Black? It's an amazing show about clones. They all have very different personalities and issues even though they are genetically identical.

Too bad we all need labels to get the help we need instead of by symptoms. The label groups a set of symptoms together so they're easier to identify. If someone comes in with ASD, there's a general picture of how the person may present. If you had to list each single symptom it would be ridiculous....

Wow there's a lot of responses. I wish this forum were set up like Reddit so you could directly respond to one statement. I'm not sure which are directed at me but here goes. I had a two-hour assessment at the beginning and a report was made based on that. The SLP knows me now so she can anticipate ...

I see a speech language pathologist for SCD. I bring in examples of times that I failed and we figure out what to do in similar situations in the future. We decide how to word things so they aren't so blunt. We figure out how I'm supposed to act in upcoming social situations. If there's a grad stude...

I was diagnosed with this last year. It sucks because it's a new diagnosis and all of the information is for children. In my experience, the treatment is the same as it would be for ASD communication difficulties.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Weighted Blankets-- anyone tried?

My weighted blanket is about 13% of my body weight. I sewed it myself using poly pellets for weight; I didn't use any fiberfill. The total cost was about $65. I made it as long as I am tall and 36 inches wide. I wanted it small so all of the weight would be on me. It stays on me when I roll over. I ...

Wellbutrin can take several weeks before you notice any positive effects. Side effects generally get less noticeable (to a certain extent) as your body gets used to the medication.

I laugh at inappropriate times very often. It's more of a nervous laugh than the kind of laugh that occurs when something is actually funny. It leads people to think I'm lying or being rude. I've gotten in trouble for it at work. It happens when I'm uncomfortable or someone says something ridiculous...

I'm a nurse. I wouldn't recommend it. I work in a psychiatric hospital almost exclusively with people with dementia; my poor communication skills aren't usually noticed except by my coworkers.

Google Primary Progressive Aphasia. It sounds like what you're describing.

Speech/Language Pathologists often have experience dealing with the older population. They treat kids but also adults who've had strokes or traumatic brain injuries or have communication disorders. I'm in my twenties and recently started seeing an SLP. She gave me the advice to think of the first le...

I agree OJani. (Sorry, I don't know how to quote.) I wouldn't want to be diagnosed with something I don't actually have but it seems like people will wind up with many diagnoses. SCD and ADD or SCD and Tourette's or SCD and sensory processing disorder. Or like you said they'll just focus on the one ...

I have at least one of the other four ASD things for sure but she didn't think the other three were severe enough. She said stimming only counts if it interferes directly with activities you're trying to accomplish. My "special interest" would be movies/shows but that's not odd (everyone watches mov...

She didn't mention AS criteria specifically. When I asked why it wasn't ASD we went through the DSM5 criteria. She said something about it being AS but that it's gone now.

I was diagnosed with Social Communication Disorder recently. I'm in my early 20's. Anyone else diagnosed with this? I know it's not actually on the Spectrum but it's close. The psychologist said I could consider it Asperger's (since it isn't in the DSM anymore) but that I didn't meet the new criteri...
