I dislike having to engage (or overhear) chit-chat related to football/soccer, unless my father and brother talk about it. They manage to draw out some humour from what is an otherwise arid, fatuous and over-esteemed subject.

90 % of the atheists I've met, are rude this way. Galileo Galliei was said to have been so too. Although one can doubt wether he was an atheist, he did criticise the Church, and was nearly sentenced to burn on the stake. Actually, I think Galileo Galilei deserved such a fate, if he had been as rude...

thinkinginpictures, you went on an athiest foum to argue for the existence of God? Bad idea ... that would be like going on an anti-abortion forum to argue for infanticide. Of course they will be hostile. The response you quoted was quite rude though. Frankly I wouldn't bother with the site. Why ca...

Anyway, yes, Xlexa, it's perfectly 'normal' for an Aspie to share your experiences. For me, it's a relief to discover that it's a common trait amongst people like us and, for that reason, I'm very glad that you made this thread.

It's called "Auditory Processing Disorder" [ Wikipedia link ], and is somewhat common with us Aspies. I have it too, and whenever someone jokingly mentions a hearing aid, I tell them it's not a problem with volume, but with distinction. One on one I do fine, but if there's too much background noise...

Sorry, it was not a very good attempt at word-play. I need to decaffeinate myself, and then stop listening to Groucho Marx.

To quote my music history professor, Wagner has some beautiful moments, but ooh, the hours. Personally, Wagner was a blowhard. Rossini once said, "Wagner has wonderful moments, and dreadful quarters of an hour," and I agree with him. And so, it would seem, does your teacher. "Blowhard" is putting i...

I believe the more incisive question would be "Is anything like Australian-rules football?" So "Nein!" to both questions.

What's your position on Wagner, and did he find that position comfortable?
