Actually, I did mention that he is six. It's at the bottom of the post, though. I don't think he's old enough to really discuss it. And that brings up the ethical dilemma of making a decision about pharmaceutical intervention for an individual who cannot accurately report his feelings. Behavior and ...

Absolutely, I agree.

Might not have been the best example of his anxiety, which is kind of always lurking below the surface.

The general question here is what do you think of anti-depressants for kids on the spectrum, and I'd like to ask parents as well as adults on the spectrum their opinions. Of course, one cannot really discuss this situation 100% generally, however. Each case is unique. I'll share my own individual ex...

The uplifting end to this story is that yesterday I had the opportunity to speak with someone regarding these IQ tests. The reason my son got a second test is that I enrolled him in a study about trying to help kids on the spectrum transition to school. He was four when I enrolled him in the study. ...

Regarding the Chore Monster app, I have some tips, if anyone is interested. I make the chores all with no due date. That way, if I miss a day, I can put in a bunch at once. That takes the stress out of it for me. I use it to reinforce behaviors like trying a piano lesson and getting through it and b...

That's hilarious.

I taught kindergarten in Japan for a while. We had to test the students. The youngest girl filled her scantron with a picture of a dinosaur. I loved it so much.

Yes, I agree. Our school is full of affluent, pushy, braggy parents. I feel ashamed to say I would have been one of them had my son been born a genius. I probably would never have been quite so annoying as some. But now I just have a way more pluralistic view of what success means for each individua...

Yoga. Cardio. Writing. Marijuana (somewhat legal where I live). Prozac (a lifesaver for me). Sex. My son is six. I remember when he was four. Some of your posts bring it all back. It's easier now. It's also harder. But I'm finally getting to a place where I can focus a bit more on myself and my inte...

Thank you for these responses. As you can see, this has really bothered me more than it needed to. In fact, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm awake at 4:30 in the morning, after a little bathroom trip, going through files for evidence that the kiddo is a little "smarter". The "good news" is that I did...

I use the Chore Monster app. It's fun. As many have said, I struggle with consistency! Sometimes I forget to do the points! We tied 100 points to one dollar. My son earns money to buy toys. It serves the double function of teaching about money. When he asks for toys, I tell him how much money he has...

A neighbor revealed that her son, who is obviously ahead of grade level, took an IQ test and scored 150. It got me wondering what my son, who was diagnosed autistic at age 3 years, 10 months, scored. I looked up his evaluation from the Regional Center. He scored 81 on the Weschler Preschool IQ test....

I know technically, Aspies don't exist anymore, but I started to wonder about myself recently. I'm new here. My son just turned six. He was diagnosed HFA at 3.5. He is in mainstream kindergarten with an aide, and he is thriving. Recently, we have been doing some ABA therapy. My approach to my son ha...
