I'm sorry, I still don't really get it. I don't think anyone gets on a plane expecting it to crash (except terrorists), so does that mean that every time a plane crashes, it's irony?

So from the Alanis Morissette song, for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about: "He won the lottery and died the next day" not irony? "Black fly in a blue chardonnay" not irony? "Death row pardon two minutes two late" irony? "Traffic jam when you're already late" not irony? "A no smoking...

Of my many journeys learning about Asperger's, one thing I found was that we can't understand concepts such as irony and sarcasm. I've got the sarcasm down--to the point where I am acutely aware of it, at least from myself. Irony, though, has always been a mystery to me. It's been explained to me in...

A gifset of this episode (specifically the explanation of Asperger's) was the instrumental factor in me learning about Asperger's/autism and finding out I have it. No, it's not perfect and it doesn't cover everything, but it got my gears turning, and that's enough.

My husband's father causes me so much anxiety that he has become a trigger for me. I cannot speak to him on the phone or be around him without having a panic attack. Even knowing that my husband is on the phone with him will make me a little anxious. I'm not sure that that particular case is really ...

Have to say punishment, though I've never seen Plan 9 from Outer Space. I don't like wine.

Like, I suspect, most of us, I have days where I am more "passing normal" and days where I have trouble functioning in society to varying degrees. Today is one of my Aspie days. At breakfast, it seemed like I kept saying things that made people upset and I didn't know why. Then a friend said somethi...

I started school again on August 25th. This is my second time at a 4-year college, but this time I have an associate's degree, so I'm coming in as a junior. I'm living on campus because my house is 1h20m away in good weather... and the weather won't be good much longer. The transition has been hard ...

You're right--it's absolutely disrespectful to threaten or grab anyone, regardless of what may be going on in their mind. I grew up with a lot of aggression too, but mostly not until I hit middle school. At that point, my dad and I fell out, and I became a target for bullies. Of course I "know bette...

B19, I remember reading Amazon reviews for Aspie books having to do with couples, and getting discouraged because most of them were in regards to male Aspie/female non-ASD couples. Being that Asperger's manifests differently between the sexes, and chemical processes in the brain are different even i...

Thank you, noyial and FredOak. I let my husband read your responses, and asked if he notices any signs that I'm becoming overwhelmed. He says I get really snappy. So I just told him, the next time I get snappy, say something like, "You seem like you are getting overwhelmed. Maybe you need some alone...

I've been married for 8 years, and no one seems to be able to help my husband and I. I'm an Aspie, and my husband is non-ASD. Today we had a huge fight over, of all things, digging the damn fire pit. I've been under a lot of stress from other things lately too, and I blew up because I thought we had...

My initial response is "that's sad." But I don't actually feel sad. I've just been around long enough to know that's the "expected" response. That is an interesting and really unique way to go. I can't imagine there are many people that has happened to. And this is the point where I start debating h...
