This is a topic I've been interested in for a while, but it's hard to find any good information on the hostility present in these debates and was curious to hear out others who may be knowledgeable in this area. To sum up, the 'analytical tradition' is a way of doing philosophy that has largely foll...

#1 ? Validity of the Eye Tracking Experiment? I had no prior knowledge regarding these types of experiments prior to my participation. Afterwards, I spent several hours watching videos and reading studies. At this point in time, I don?t have any objections to their validity. #2 ? Were my actions in...

There is also an eggsperimental paradigm wrapped around the physical measurements, such that it is not just sit down and measure eye movements, but do specific task with specific instructions and your eyes will move while doing so, and how they move can be calculated in terms of concrete details as...

Science and religion are opposites. Oh right, so that's why the study of maths and science are seen as so important in (non-Wahhabi/Deobandi) madrasahs, and explains why the Roman Catholic church is quite possibly the most important scientific institution of all time. Those guys that imprisoned Gal...

skibum, nice excerpt, I've never heard of it described that way. Thanks for sharing! Also, I'd like to ask you people about something I've been thinking about for a few days. In the beginning of this thread I shared which diagnostic criteria I meet and I basically meet enough of them to get a diagno...

Hey Spectacles - You totally lost me. Can you clarify? My bad. You know how AS brain wiring can make one blind to a social world that NTs take for granted (the ability to read body language, social cues, and certain meanings based on vocal intonations, etc), I was trying to make an analogy to that....

What I don't understand is the "drop the façade/mental redecoration" thing some of you are talking about. For me, I grew up following narratives that did not resonate with me. Originally, I was forced to do activities in school that did not resonate with me, creating a feeling of resentment, both f...

Believe me, the thought crossed my mind. I even mentioned this as a possibility to the therapist when we first discussed the diagnostic criteria many months ago. I wondered whether this might be the case 8). It's so nice to be able to rely on other people being able to see the inherent complexity o...

This is a fantastic thread, so I'm gonna keep it going. Had my burnout about 11 months ago. Took close to 5 months to become stable, and I still haven't recovered completely. Certain cognitive functions have diminished significantly, and I am scared to death that they will never come back all the wa...

I've only found 3 non-conformists in my lifetime, and those were the times that I've felt the most sane. I'm not sure how one keeps pride, hope, sanity, and motivation when there is no one else who views the world in a similar manner nearby. How do you find these folk? How do you stay "with it" unti...

What hasn't been contaminated yet? maybe North Korea and/or Iran ? Some Amazon tribes? Contaminated isn't quite the right word, but there are cultural practices in some countries/cultures in Africa that deal with mental health in a radically different way than the West. I've always attributed these...

Then, came the question (about ?how I felt about the results?). As usual, I hemmed and hawed. Ultimately, I said something to the effect, ?well, I suppose we no longer need to talk about that second opinion?. She seemed quite OK with that. The only issue now, is that I don?t know what to discuss ne...
It?s hard to say how I was affected because I did not know that life was not like that for everyone.
Yep, exactly the same here. It took me quite a bit longer to realize it, but it blew my mind once it finally sunk in. I don?t think the ?theory of mind? limitations associat...

For the longest time, I've pinned down my oddities as effects of being thrown into radically different cultural settings throughout my life. I figured I was in a constant state of cultural confusion, possibly extended culture-shock. I've observed others who've lived multi/cross cultural lifestyles, ...

^out of politics!! AMEN!!

@khaoz, I have friends who've done something similar in order to get scholarships from Christian organizations. I realize they've got their own evangelical agenda, but when helping out others, seems odd to have this one condition of "follow my traditional values".
