I've learned that wall posts suggesting hangouts are very ineffective, too. Usually, calling or texting seems to be more effective. |

Okay, a lot of you totally have the wrong idea about me. I don't feel entitled to sex from anybody. My frustration really is that none of my female friends hang out with me. In actuality, my male friends hang out with me fairly rarely, but not as rarely. Even girls who explicitly know I'm not attrac... |

Okay, so I've learned is that it's still possible to hang out with a girl if I'm just her friend (unless she has a boyfriend, I assume). The fact that none of the girls in college want to hang out with me is because they personally don't want to hang out with me. Other girls might or might not be wi... |

Is it normal to only hang out with a girl once every four years? I think I have a right to feel hurt that my female friends NEVER want to hang out with me. I am okay with them not being my girlfriend. I just feel hurt that they'd rather hang out with a piece of crap than me. I theorized that they on... |

Actually my proposed hang out would have included only 5 people. All of us know each other. I don't know why they said no. One of them even used the "I have to study" excuse, ... on Friday night (when nobody studies). |

I guess I've learned something, if you want to hang out with a girl, pick a restaurant that doesn't serve burgers. That's the moral of the day and the reason I've had a hard time hanging out with girls. |

When I ask my female friends if they'd like to come with me and my male friends to the local burger joint, why do I always get a no despite how nice they seem to me? Why do they refuse to hang out with me? Are burgers that unfeminine? |

The specific thing that is different between the 80s and now is that like you said, guys and girls hung out in the 80s. Nowdays, hangouts are exclusively male or female. My male friends' video game get-togethers or eating outs are always exclusively male and any females we invite refuse to come. Con... |

Okay, so there is no universal rule of what you can and can't do if your just friends (supposedly). The fact that all ten of the female friends I've had throughout my lifetime don't hang out with me and only hug me before we part ways forever is pure coincidence. For that matter, why is it that all ... |

I've been thinking about 20 something rules, not necessarily teen rules. I know the rules for hugs and hanging out in the friendzone were somewhat more lax back when I was a teen. It took me 3 years to get my first hug from a girl in college and 4 to have a girl sit by me and hang out with me (at a ... |

The hookup culture is pretty exclusive to ridiculously attractive people. As to the idea that friends of the opposite sex can hang out anywhere, that doesn't seem to be the case where I live. I tried the "invite a girl to eat at the local bar/burger joint while inviting a guy to prove it's not a dat... |

I've just been thinking about how absurdly complex the rules of being in the friendzone of a female is nowadays. I remember having a really hard time with girls because, apparently, the friendzone had a significantly fewer number of rules in the 1980s than now. For instance, hanging out with a girl ... |

It's been my experience that no one uses facebook to chat or IM. In my four or so years of using it, no one I know ever wants to chat on it. It seems to be used to brag about your experiences and post pictures, hence the "face" in facebook. It's the most antisocial social network I know. |

Hi, I'm new here. I'm Orange Cowboy. I am a graduate student seeking an MA in public history. I love lots of activities considered "geeky" (anime, comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, etc). My four years in college has demonstrated that I know so little about the way the rules of socialization works (espec... |
