In my family, people made a lot of jokes. My little brother (also autistic) memorized entire joke books, one of which was about four hundred pages long. I get puns, as long as the words involved are the sort that can be found in the dictionary; I can figure out slang, but it takes me a long time, so...

I used to get that a lot when I was younger. I was a very, very obediant child. Some of the bossier and more socially adept of my peers would "befriend" me, becasue they realized I would basically do whatever they said. "Going along with it" was just how I socialized. I recall some of my "friends" u...

It happens to me. Like, I suddenly lose the ability to think in words for a while. I don't really know what to say, except to find another way to communicate. It's also a good idea to practice stringing scentences together when you're like that, if you feel up to it. It'll be slower, and simpler tha...

I compulsively copy sounds I hear (not words) without intending to. Something falls off a shelf, and hits the floor, and I compulsively copy the sound. Sometimes I have to say it a few times until it's right. When I was a child, we had cats. Consequently, I became an expert at replicating cat-sounds...

I think I just discovered the answer. Having performance anxiety affects visual spatial skills way more than verbal skills. When I was a kid I probably just thought the IQ test was a game. Could be . . . I doubt it, though. I suspect your visual-spatial skills didn't test lower because they looked ...

noidentity0-- Wow. It sounds like you're having a really hard time. Practically every poster has said "no" or "not any time soon to the possibilty of a cure. You probably don't need to hear it again. Sometimes, life sucks. Like, really, REALLY sucks. You can't fix everything, you can't change other ...

From ages four to ten I had a kind of weird one (fascination with illness, especially incurable or terminal). It freaked people out, so I hid it, and eventually crushed it. Then got obsessed with more socially acceptable things like non-euclidean geometry and building small machines out of cardboard...

More like there's a delay, or something. Takes more conscious effort to move, but all of my brain-power is tied up in the loop, so . . .
I thinks it's kind of the same. Thanks, guys.

I think the most important thing when disciplining children is to make sure they know what they're being punished for. Children need rules and punishments to be consistent (especially children on the spectrum). Also, talk to your children about their behaviour, and discuss rules and punishments.

Sometimes I can't move, and my mind goes in a loop sort of like

var i = 100;
while (i >= 10) {
document.write ( "<br>");
i = i++;
}

(It doesn't terminate, and the computer freezes.).

Or I just can't control my body. Do you ever get this?

That's a very good point @ NiceCupOfTea. I think there's a difference between fidgetting and stimming, but it's tricky to say what's a stim and what isn't.

I could be wrong, but I thought stimming was a feature of severe autism rather than Asperger's.

Nope. Lots of Asperger's people stim.

frodz-- That's an interesting one. Keep in mind that specific stims don't really separate AS from NT. I know NTs who rock. Good luck.
