More than fast enough for anything I can think of.

its 100 millibytes per second, or about 1 Megabyte every 10 seconds.

Its excellent for gaming. IF you wished to download the iso for ubuntu, for example, which is 700 MB it would take about 70 minutes.

In this case the OP would be referring to 100 megabit - which is more than likely the speed of the Ethernet interface between their computer and the device connecting to the internet, rather than the speed of the internet connection itself.

I don't know of any 100 megabit domestic internet connections here in Australia - my 33 megabit cable is about as high as they go.

Well, it doesn't seem fast. It takes around ten minutes for a three minute movie on YouTube to load.

Youtube movie... about 10 MegaBytes. On my roughly 4 megabit/second connection, that's about half a megabyte per second, so 10 Magabytes should take 20 seconds.

It it is taking 10 minutes, it would imply that either your connection is nearer 100 KILO bits per second, i.e. a thousand times slower than you think, or that the server was too busy to send the stuff.

Try http://www.speedtest.net to see what connection speed you are getting.

Or that you have some sort of worm, virus or whatnot that is hogging your connection.

If you are using windows, you can get an idea of what you are connected to at any given time.

1. press start, then run.
2. Type cmd,
3. type cd\windows\system32. press enter
4. type netstat -a press enter
5. the output (it may take a few seconds) will list each connection to and from your computer. My machine, while clean, lists about 20 items. copy/paste your results here perhaps.

Thats not very good. The download is passible, but i wonder if the upload rate is causing trouble with packet requests. to bad they dont display the variance, which could be the trouble as well.

Here is mine. Two other machines are in use; one is dowloading a google vid.

I blame the government, for not buying the resources to make broadband faster here in Australia!

Hard to say. It could be that, but if its local(neigbourhood hub to house), then its a matter of private enterprise.

My provincial government had/has an initative to provide high speed internet to all Albertans, so thats a good thing.

You have 256/64 ADSL. You could easily upgrade to 1.5/256 if you wished, although it would cost more.
