what computer/OS are you using?

are you running any other browsers or programs at the same time?

do you open a bunch of tabs all at once?

I use a macbook and sometimes firefox gets a little weird acting for me. Nothing like what you describe though.

I find with my older slower computers Flash will bring my browser to a halt.
I use prefbar to enable/disable it as necessary.

Yes, sometimes do have a lot of tabs open at once. But, this issue just started yesterday, and I have had lots of tabs open at once months before this issue started taking place. If there is a tab feature, what good is it if I can't use it? Tell me that! I want to know if the idiots at Mozilla are sending my computer a bug that purposely crashes firefox just to get on my f****n nerves.

Odd. I use firefox on my laptop because it is far faster than IE, I have never had any problems with it except while a MMO game was running in the background.

Firefox seems to always be heavy on the memory, do have many tabs open when you browse?

Well, you still haven't said what OS you are using. You haven't described what changed on Monday (or whenever this started). You haven't said what version of Firefox you are using (the latest?). You haven't said what plugins you use. You haven't said what you mean by "Firefox hangs". You haven't explained what you are doing at the "30 minutes" point.

I would guess the problem is with your set up, not Firefox, as no one else seems to be having a problem.

============

I was (briefly) running Firefox, Opera, Lynx, Elinks, Links2 and Konqueror, earlier on, to check out some stuff.

I use SeaMonkey. At the moment, I am managing to lock it up, probably because I'm writing some Java applet code, with "amusing" errors. It also currently seems very unhappy with multiple YouTube windows. Both these send it into "100% CPU" mode, which I generally give up on, and kill it.

Number of tabs open - seldom a problem - I usually have about twenty - a little while back, I had about forty open. Not a problem. I have some html files, locally, which are over 1.5 megabyte (source, not including embedded images). They take a while to load.

512Mbyte 1.6GHz machine, running Ubuntu with 800Mbyte swap in use at this instant. Current uptime = 9.5 days (since a power cut).

Ah! The YouTube monster? Maybe we do share a problem. It occurs to me to slot in a GreaseMonkey script that prevents the YouTube embedded box from being shown. I think they must have some pretty nasty script/applet going on in there.

Now my computer hangs every single d**n time I try to watch videos on ANY video website. I am running a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. This is really driving me bonkers, not to mention close to a big huge meltdown!! !! THis is happening regularly on Firefox AND internet explorer. I have a 42 GB hard drive, don't know if that is considered good in this day and age. I have tried upgrading to the latest flash player and all, but it's still happening!! !!

Sorry if I sound like a little kid, but when this stuff happens to me, I feel like some imaginary invisible idiot is teasing me!! !! !

depending on your system memory and cpu usage your computer should work fine with Firefox, my computer has 512MB DDR RAM and 40GB hardrive and i use Firefox with sometimes 16 tabs for 24 hours straight if Firefox is crashing after 30 minutes, try reinstalling it, using IE instead or switch to Mozilla's test software 'mozzila'.

I just said that the hanging happens on any video website, on any browser, Firefox or IE, at random times!! !

We seem to be drawing it all out of you... so, Windows of some flavour, I guess, as you imply you are running IE natively.

I hate to say this, but I had a problem with XP reverting to its basic video drivers, EVERY time I rebooted - totally ignoring my Nvidea driver. At the time, I was playing UT a lot, and at every re-boot, I had to re-install the Nvidea card ... very carefully, as only one sequence would work, without requiring an idiotic reboot, which would of course trash the driver again!.

As it wasn't a TOTAL hassle, and I had a work-round, and XP was running well, I put up with this for over a year (!). Eventually, I did re-install XP, which took well over a week, IIRC, and never did get all the stuff back installed the way it had been before.

Anyway... what I'm wondering is if you have got a driver/codec problem with your video card?

In my hassle, as described above, what my mistake had been, was that right at the start, I had let the Microsoft "update" install the proper, certified Nvidia driver. That turned out to be a three year out-of-date driver versus the one it (brokenly) replaced. I tried multiple times over the course of the year, to excise the cruddy thing, including one occasion where I went through the HDD and the registry with a chain-saw... to no avail.

If it's a problem with my video card, how do I fix it? And yes, I am running Windows XP.

Erm. The only "test software" I can think of is that Firefox 3 is currently out on beta 3.

There used to be the "Mozilla" suite, which was the original (derived from Netscape... sort of), which gave rise to Firefox/Thunderbird as a split, then was itself discontinued. It was never "test software". I used it. I've never much cared for the FF/TB split up pair.

I personally use "SeaMonkey", which is the reincarnation of the suite (whose source code was originally internally called "Seamonkey"). Seamonkey combines the current Firefox and Thunderbird, in effect, plus quite a lot of other stuff, in a less fussy, single, integrated package. It also has never been "test software".
