This guy basically took his iPod apart and carved his own outside casing out of a plank of wood, then polished it with three coats, and put it back together.

i can't imagine the touchpad would be very effective covered in wood....

Yeah, does it actually work? Because if it does I wouldn't mind one.. different wood though, I'm not keen on the look of that one, but other wood would be nice.. *glances at ipod*

The paint would have to be a very sturdy paint to take the handling. Varnish sinks into the wood and makes a very hard and durable surface. A lot of paints don't. Varnish wears. Paint chips off. If you want to try this, consider a colored varnish instead of paint. There isn't that much use in making a wooden case and painting it so that it looks like a plastic case, anyway.
