Cliffhanger thread title.

Alt+Print Screen does the currently selected window only.

Is there something wrong with that?

There are many threads and I won't read them all; I have to pick and choose from the thread titles. If the title is undescriptive or even misleading, I may either miss a good thread or waste time on a bad one.

I see. I tried to be helpful by putting 'Print Screen:' before the cliffhanger bit though :)

My KVM switchbox activates its menu on just Print Screen so I have to use something else to capture the entire desktop (or press print screen twice).

Thats useful to know... I can use that for our dos formatter at work.

Weird that now that I think about it... I have NEVER used that key... nor do I believe I've ever used printscreen. I just print to file.

Command-Shift-3 - Take a picture of the screen
Command-Shift-4 - Take a picture of the selection
Command-Shift-4, then press Control while selecting - Take a picture of the screen, place in Clipboard
Command-Shift-4, then Spacebar - Take a picture of the selected window

You just need to press the print screen button!

You mean Microsoft actually finally fixed that bug after 14 years?

Before Windows 95,
pushing Print Screen would actually make the printer print what's on the screen.
Since then, as far as I know, just pushing Print Screen does nothing.

Before Windows 95,
pushing break would exit a program, and
pushing scroll lock would pause the motion on the screen until you pushed it again.
Since then, those buttons just turn some green lights on and off.

Interesting - I did not know this. Thank you.

Another question: did the print screen function formerly capture the cursor as well?

In Win95 and WinME, the cursor was included. I'm glad they omitted the disturbing cursor when making WinXP. As long as I have needed to make snapshots, PrintScreen have copied a snapshot of the screen to the clipboard. Over the years, its format has changed from bitmap to some sort of vector format, which is great. I guess it was in the days of Win3.11 that it would print the screen directly to the physical printer.

The break and pause keys (if not the same key) are useful when programming and is some other special situations. I have not found any use for the scroll lock key except in DOS.

I just played around with my mouse and found that the scroll lock key will stop the super fast scrolling after pushing the scroll wheel button (yes, I have a windows wheel mouse).
