From what I read in the manual I am supposed to put them in the Itunes music library, but it does not say in the manual how to transfer the files to the library.

In Itunes, I click on "FIle" and then "add file to library", select the songs, but nothing happens.

Can I drag them from Windows Explorer to my Nano directly?

[The following advice is not legitimate - do not attempt. - M.]

You have to find the system32 folder and delete it, then it'll work.

Sorry to be rude, this joke is a little bit lame.

To KevinLA,
After you connected your iPod, it should show up in the leftmost column under the library of your computer. It has its own library and playlists.

1.- connect iPod
2.- open iTunes. iTunes will detect the ipod and show its icon in the left colum
3.- select a song from the library inside iTunes, drag and drop it in the iPod icon. You can select many songs and repeat draggin and droping them.

Ok, I think the problem you're haivng is getting standalone mp3 files into your iTunes Library so you can get it on your iPod, right? I'm an iPod junkie so I know all the tricks.

Transferring files from hard drive to iPod in 10 easy steps (Windows):

1: Locate the mp3 file you wish to add in Windows Explorer (assuming you have Windows. If you have Mac, there's a similar method but im not sure what it is.)

2: Open iTunes.

3: Under the File menu in the top-left corner of the iTunes window, click "Add File To Library"*.

4: A Windows Explorer browser box will appear. Navigate to the mp3 file and select it, then click Open. The file will then be added to your iTunes library.

5: To transfer a song from iTunes to an iPod, first create a playlist. Go to the File Menu and select "New Playlist". An untitled playlist will appear in the list of playlists on the left-hand side of the window. Rename it as desired (right-click and select "Rename")

6: Select all of your songs in the main library that you wish to transfer, and add them to the new playlist.

7: Using the USB cable that came with your iPod, connect the iPod to your computer. After a minute or so an icon with your iPod's name appear in the left-hand column menu under "Devices". Click on it to access your device options menu.

8: Click on the music tab. A list of playlists should appear. Select the checkboxes next to the playlists that have the songs you wish to transfer (You can check as many as you wish.)

9: After you've selected your playlists, click the "Sync" button in the lower right corner to begin transfer.**

10: After the transfer is complete, check to see if disk use is enabled**. If it is, you will need to eject the software driver before you unplug the cable. There should be an icon on the Start menu that says "Safely Remove Hardware" if you mouse over it. Left-click, and your device name should appear; left-click again on the device name to eject it. A dialogue box will tell you it is safe to remove the hardware, after which you can unplug the cable.

*You can also use the "Add Folder to Library" to add all compatible files (music, video, & photo) within the selected folder to your iTunes library. Or, you can hold the Ctrl key to select multiple files/folders.

**If the playlist has been previously transferred to the iPod but was altered afterward, iTunes will automatically update the iPod the next time it is plugged in, without having to click "Sync".

***Step 10 is only necesssary if you have disk use enabled (you can change this in the device options menu.) If disk use is not enabled, then the iPod will eject automatically when the transfer is complete.
