My homepage is Yahoo UK as I am a news junkie, then I generally open a tab for WP and another to check regular bookmarks (Yahoo mail, earth and moon viewer and wikipedia, heh)

rant mode on:
No Melvis i use bookmarks to go to websites depends on my mood were i go first. I do not feel the need for and think the idea of a home page has out lived it's usefulness. I rarely use IE and was doing a scan with adaware and it said about:blank was a hack so i said ok nuke it guess what bloody MSN got made the defaut home page in IE  it's hard coded on the deep level of the ops sys and ms says it not a monoploy grrh. Even mozilla when first installed has a homepage but does not mind if you have it set to about:blank
it's a lame metafor like you can get lost online and need a "home" heeh so silly
End rant mode

I can be quite impatient and have very 'routine' behaviour when I first go online so it makes sense to me to have a set page when starting the internet.
I thought the metaphor was that home was the place you spent most time, rather than it being there is case you get lost- cos think about it how would you find you way home if you were lost and before you say it I know you can simply click a button online to do that- but that makes the metaphor kinda flawed in my opinion.
You also seem to assume that I use IE- and I don't.

Mel (who can't quite believe that anyone would be so bothered about this they would feel the need to rant).

You didn't have a personal blog option!

And since I don't use webemail AT ALL, that would be a silly one to pick. :>

I have my local newspaper's site (macontelegraph.com) set as my homepage, at least for right now.

I'm lazy. Or I just don't know any better. I use Firefox's Google page.

Google. More often than not, I am needing to research information or images, so it's easy to have that one-click home link up top.

My home page and my default page are both blank.

I have a button though which opens several tabs in Safari: a rugby league forum, aspieTALK, this one, another rugby site, and my nations game page.

Michael.
