I deleted some stories and diaries that I wrote on my computer several months ago. Is there any way that I can recover them? Any at all? I also posted them on www.fictionpress.com, but now I have deleted them and changed my username. I have cleared my recycle bin on numerous occasions since I deleted those files. I would terribly like to see what I wrote in those files, even if they do contain bad memories...

It depends.

If you have taken on lots of data since then (i.e. over written the area) or done a defrag on the drive then you are unlikey to be able to recover the data.

If you haven't overwritten or defraged, then there are programs which can find the data.

you can try some of this programs. I think the smaller your files were and the less you have filled up your hardrive since you deleted the files, the bigger is the chance to fully recover them.

serch on: file recovery

i think i have used this one earlier
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm

you might wanna use the "Special Recovery Function" if your files were in one of this formats, if cant find them in a normal search.

EXE GIF HLP HTML HTM JPG LZH MID
MOV MP3 PDF PNG RTF TAR TIF WAV

Apologies.

Anyway, my answer only said if it was possible or not. Your answer said what to do if it was possible. So between us we gave good advice. Its like we're a team!

You are right! And doing teamwork is something I so seldom accomplish that I should have been just as happy as being the first to post.

PS, I wasnt angry if I gave that impression by my use of first word, only dissapointed in a way (and being uncommen extrovertive).

Hello,

It's maybe too late but you can try.

Where I work we use Stellar Phoenix FAT and NTFS, we recovered a lots of data with it, we use it on drives that are not recognized in the bios or into Windows and it worked several times, I ever get data back after the client format and reinstall Windows ...

We got much success with Stellar than we got with Ontrack Data Recovery and many others that we tried.

Good luck !

I've used Handy Recovery 1.0 before. It's not the best out there, but it's fast and free.

SteelMaiden: any luck? how's it going so far?

Just one tip for the future:

You can install WinRar (it's like WinZip), and password protect files. You still have them but they are safe from prying eyes.
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (Winrar 3.6)

If you need any help just send me a PM.

You could also use Keepass for the same thing. It's used to store passwords for sites, but you can add an entry and use the Notes box for writing :P

Overwritten? Perhaps. Defrag. Don't think so - it would take way too long!
