Question about 4G

I hear Sprint has something called Wiimax (for there 4G) but the standard (or so they say) will be LTE. Now I'm not sure if my small town will ever get Wiimax but the phone I'm wanting the HTC EVO 4G has a 1ghz processor it'll still run 3G pretty fast. Now lets say it doesn't come to my town and LTE is what really takes off am I ok waiting on a LTE phone? The phone I want HTC EVO 4G will be the first 4G phone but if Wiimax doesn't take off then my town will not probably get it up with that processor 3G will still be fast. I assume it'll be a couple years for LTE to get off the ground and cell phones are usually 1 yr. upgrade (with Sprint anyway) or 2yr. contract so it'd probably take a couple years for LTE to be big right so it'd be no big deal to get another new phone 2 years down the line correct? Surely LTE will not pop up everywhere suddenly and the whole "4G" Wiimax stuff bombed (looks at videogame consoles,Blu-ray HD-DVD battle)

Also, when did phones start being "slow"?

G is for garbage.

Wow, these new phones are slow.
I just tried the ancient two tin cans and a wire phone and a
pair of cell phones...
and my voice actually got to the other can before the other phone!

How many more Garbages do we need?

Electricity usually goes as fast as the speed of light.
How did the phone company make it go even slower than sound?

Now try again, if you know anyone who has two really old phones.
Use one to call and talk to the other, if they have different phone numbers.
The old phones are Faster too! ANY PHONES MADE BEFORE THE YEAR 2000!

If you are worried, i'd say wait.

There is also a difference between ISPs, i.e. one sent me constantly flying back from HSPDA to Edge at a few crappy kBPS, and now i have a new 3G ISP and i'm constantly at HSPDA.

Bfore they get the 3G stuff working properly - I'm not getting 4G
