I wonder if any of you could help me. I really need to be able to text my cousin in Scotland (I'm in Canada) for the next month or so.

We're both little old ladies with no computer smarts. Her provider is O2.

(1) Could you tell me how to get onto O2 for a month for texting only?

(2) Do you happen to have O2 and be willing to transmit text msg to cuz - usually 3-5 words. Right now, for example, I need to text "Poetry in email" - sometimes "Phone me" or "r u ok?"

She'll be here with me in 3-4 wks but I really need text ability till then. Her computer is iffy and also upstairs (we're not limber). Also she turns everything off so she can sleep - *except* text!

Would anybody help me?

i believe you would need an 02 simcard to be able to be a part of that network. you can order the sim cards for free but they'd possibly need to come from the UK.

http://www.google.com/products

Search 02 simcard in there. I got plenty of results back myself, but it is aimed at UK customers. The search results for you may be quite different.

Please remember that even if it is the same network you may be charged at international rates and that your phone be need 'unlocking' to make the phone compatible with the sim card,.

if you have any questions i am happy to help. i do not know a great deal but i can try and look into it.

I completely skimmed over that sorry.

I can message for you and communicate over this forum, if you want as 02 is my network.

I'm not on 02 but I'm in Scotland, so I'd also be able to pass on messages to your cousin if you pmed me with her number.

Maybe PatrickNeville and I could keep checking this thread for messages you want to pass on, and whichever of us picks it up first could simply reply "sent" so your cousin doesn't get loads of the same message. :)

Some services allow you to text people from an internet connection for free, I was just looking into this

O2 allows you to send 5 texts for free if you register, then further texts are 5p each from the website

does anyone know of any website where you can send unlimited texts?

Yeah, I'm on a contract anyway, so it wouldn't cost me any more to send texts to this lady.

i'd say the simplest way would be to install skype. set up an account then text from that. in the uk you have to top up with £10 perhaps canada is $10 dunno. either way it is 5p to text pretty much anywhere in the world as far as i can tell.

It will not appear as from your number and they can't text back to it. they can always text back to your number or just message for free via skype chat or msn etc.

O2 provides up to 250 free text messages per month through their website http://www.o2.co.uk/ . You need to log on to the website using the phone number (or login name) and the password, then you compose on-screen and send - you can even schedule the text to be sent at a particular date and time, for a birthday or an alarm clock call. There is no facility to reply back to the web account, because replies to the text are received by the user's mobile phone.

The user can send those texts from anywhere (Canada or Scotland).

Thank you! I've only needed to send one message so far and Kevin got it to her. There won't be many but it's good to know you'll help me if need be. :D

8)

I usually check in to WP at least once a day, so I'll keep checking this thread and my pms to see if you need a message sent.

Thank you for that info! She'll be here in Canada with me in 3 wks or so - but I'll keep this to use when she goes back. This is very helpful, thank you.
