What's the best all-round media player for windows?

I want something which will play every file format.
Be able to rip properly into many file formats.
Be practicle to use (no wasted power / space).
Be fully compatible with windows.
No ads or popups and the only time it "connects" is when i tell it to connect to the cddb.
Use the windows filing system... I'm sick of these programs like media monkey and windows media player which feel the need to have their own "library"s. Grrrr....

I really like Real Player. It is able to do all those things in my opinion.

unfortunatly i know of only 1 and thats real one player, but that sucks in many cases........

anyways i still use WMP cause its simpler for me. Especially seing i now have a playlist of films on it

As a media app for windows, I like JetAudio a lot (is for video as well despite name):roll: . The only thing you may not like is the need to set up a playlist as an album before setting it going, but once thats done its done. nice clean little interface, configurable, rips, loads of formats, quick and free.

Media Player Classic:

-Plays every file format (even QT and RM, but you need those players or their alternatives installed in order to play the files through MPC... licensing issues), for others just needs codecs, like any other player on the market. Also plays DVDs, with navigatable dvd menus and everything.
-Unfortunately it doesn't support ripping to my knowledge...
-No wasted space at all! Very tiny and in size and memory usage. Imitates the look of Windows Media Player 6.4 (the last good version before it got bulky).
-Windows all the way
-No ads, fully freeware, not sure about CDDB
-No libraries.. playlists sure but no libraries.

MPC is what I use for everything video. Although it plays all audio files also, I prefer winamp 2.x (or 5.x w/a classic skin) to play audio. Winamp also is very small (when using classic skins or a 2.x version) and can play/rip many file formats, audio and video (5.x)... however from my experience winamp has been buggy with videos, which is why I stick with MPC for videos and WA for audio.

I use a mix of WinAMP, WMP10 and VLC

BTW if you want one that will pretty much play it all, VLC is good, but for a main client like WinAMP or WMP10 also install FFDShow, its a all in one codec, works very well
