WP blocked at my library? WTH?

This morning I had connection problems. My daughters fiance wasn't here to fix it, so I went to the library up the road to get online. I've never had problems there before, and everything worked except WP. I got some kind of message that said I wasn't allowed to access the site there.

I asked the library lady and she told me that it was on their new list of sites they have to block. She called her husband who does their IT work for them (he's got a local business and fixes all the computers in town) and asked him why, and he said that it was because WP gives out unscientific information that could cause parents to accidentally cause autism in their kid.

She hadn't ever heard of this before, blocking something because of that, and neither had her husband. He couldn't come over and fix it so I could get on right then though because he was cutting his grass. They closed at 12 today so there was no reason to wait. He won't fix it where it's not blocked for everybody though.

Has anybody else heard of some crazy crap like this? When my daughters fiance came home he fixed my connection and I Googled but couldn't find anything. Can they do this? Is there some central place in the US that decides what we can and can't see? If so, who runs it?

Mine has this forum blocked too. I need to try another library. I hope not all of them have this place blocked. Oh well at least I still have my aunt and uncles home I can go to for internet if my husband and I ever have to get rid of ours.

Perhaps they are blocking any site not related to academic research, so people will not sit on there all day and hold up people really needing them.

If WP is being singled out, perhaps it's because of some of the stuff in the Adult forum.

I'm afraid it's true - several major network routing sites in the USA have received notices from the Dept. Homeland Security telling them to block WP, and as this will affect the routing from smaller places like libraries and domestic users. WP will not be available in some areas and will probably disappear from more.
The official reason given is that WP is blocked because it doesn't support the fact that autism is caused by vaccines.

I've checked this with various technical goodies I have here and it's quite easy to see how the route is being blocked off.
Unfortunately we have no control over what goes on inside their systems so there's nothing we can do.

Who knows how these people work...
There's presumably some sort of political pressure behind it but I doubt there's much chance of getting to the bottom of it.

When do they expect this blackout to begin, and by when will all the major cities be blacked out?

And does this affect private homes as well?

That's the pits that you couldn't get on WP at your library. The staff should really do something about it. How long is it going to last for?

It's wierd because vaccines are mandatory by the government and you would think that they would support WP by saying that vaccines DONT give you autism. Or maybe it's something to do with how we don't fit the low functioning, can't communicate profile that Autism Speaks wants to push. I don't know.

Use a proxy such as unblockyoutube.com or hidemyass.com, they're more than decent for forums and other work that doesn't require a fast connection. You can also dig up a large amount of servers at proxy.org. There's little reason reasoning with people who endorse censorship, I see it as a mistake in the system that should be circumvented whenever encountered. :3 Censorship is telling a man he can’t have a steak just because a baby can’t chew it.
