PS: iam not really good at programming, so i think it will use sql. although, i would prefer a more tactile approach,
more like what you see is what you get idk

PPS: reading through the rest of the forum, i kinda feel like being on the right planet

Got great news for you! Google isn't the only search engine out there! GASP!! ! It's not?! !! Here are some others.

- Ixquick--This is the one I use. It's a good one, and doesn't track you. This was recommended to me by my older brother.

- Scroogle--Another good one, that also doesn't track you. Also recommended to me by my older brother.

- Bing--I believe that's Microsoft's answer to Google.

- Yahoo

- Dogpile is supposed to be good. I've used it and it's okay.

- Momma is supposed to be good. Some of my relatives like this one.

There are many more out there. If you want a more complete list go to Wikipedia and type in "search engines." They have a big list, but even they don't have all of them listed.

If your interest in doing a Google knock off refers to the social aspect, there are already plenty of social sites out there. Some of them are general, like FB, Twitter, and MySpace, and some are more topical, like our own WP. Just use a search engine to look up social sites.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frankly, I'm puzzled as to why someone who isn't very computer savvy would delve into this, especially as there are already so many different search and social sites already out there. Unless you are planning a limited network setup, to cover a particular category, there doesn't seem to be a point to it. Perhaps you want to experiment and practice your PC skills. That might be fun. So have at it!

Do you want to hoard specific information for a specific purpose (zombie apocalypse was what I read from your post :P) or is it just everything? If it's everything, use something that's already made or make it yourself, the ladder requiring lots of time and experience.

its not exclusively about hording information,
i was just stating a part of it.
there is much that i know about computers and still much that i dont.
but it so damn lonely by myself :(

my aspies pretty much makes me incapable of having a job,
so i work for myself on the internet, with like websites, blogging, affiliate marketing,
business, and stuff. my main "topic/gift" is filtering information,

if i want to buy a new monitor i can spend a week configuring and filtering till i have the best price/quality monitor.

and i like that, iam a true analyst
