I said MP3 because the 1st digital audio players could be CD players! Sure Sony didn't play MP3s (they ran ATRAC3) in their 1st lines of solid state music players from 1999--2002-ish but they at least supported the format in that their software was able to import MP3s.

Original iPod. It broke within a month or so, as did the replacement they sent me. Then I bought a Creative Zen V Plus, which I still use today (over 7 years later) on the rare occasion I'm away from my laptop.

RCA Lyra 128mb with SD slot can't remember what year. I later changed to Sansa Fuse 4g (Rockboxed and still use it)

My first one was a Slice 2GB device with a 1.8" low res screen. It seemed so high tech to me at the time with support for TXT files and played .MTV video files. Also a voice recorder was built in. Watching Family Guy on the 1.8" screen blew me away! Lol

a phillips 8gb vibe, it is the only one i've found to have a functional user-adjustable 5-band EQ with actual sliders for each band, and not just presets. this enables me to use my inexpensive sony headphones which otherwise would be too colored for music-listening, they required extreme EQ just to get sounding ok.

My first was a Creative Zen 8GB… It was flaky as hell.

Next, I got an 8GB Sansa Fuze. Man, that was such a good player! I also used it to record lectures at school.

Recently, my beloved Fuze began to fail… So, I finally got my first smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy, that I plan to use as my primary player.

I still use the Fuze when exercising.
