I love Reddit. I go there a lot. Sometimes 4chan users will go to Reddit and complain that Reddit has a "hive mind" because stuff can be downvoted on Reddit. I have made this thread because I am getting sick of these comments.

On Reddit, bad comments will get downvoted by the Reddit community until they are no longer visible. 4chan users complain about this but 4chan is full of idiocy and shock images precisely because those things cannot be downvoted. As a result, 4chan is a site where intelligent conversation is rare. Dumb responses to intelligent points are not downvoted there and the shock images scare away most nice people who go there.

I frequently see 4chan users say that Reddit users are "gay" and "ret*d". Reddit users are capable of kindness and intelligent conversation. I guess that makes them "gay" and "ret*d".

What is 4chan good for anyway? They make a lot image macros and spread shock sites around but the internet is overflowing with image macros and shock images. 4chan is a site that provides nothing unique or original.

In my opinion both sites are correct. 4Chan is right that Reddit is nothing but a hive-mind jerk-fest of Atheism and Liberatarians interspersed with fun images and the odd intellectual conversation. Then again, Reddit users seem to be correct by stating that 4Chan spawns nothing but trolls and shock images, where intellectual conversation seems non-existent. When people tell me they like to go on Reddit, I only discover later that 75% of the time they are also a: completely misinformed about each and every religious faith, b: Libertarian or Liberal, c: Not much more intelligent than your average Joe, in fact, all over the "smarty-pants" I know personally keep a good 10ft away from Reddit whenever they can. 4chan need not be explained... If you want truly intellectual conversations don't go on a hive-mind forum, and don't go to a troll-den, go to a legitimate forum dedicated to one topic where you'll find real experts, enthusiasts, and conversations on your topic of choice - not the self-proclaimed "intellectuals" you'll see on Reddit.

My main complaint for Reddit is the lack of anonymity and they way they recycle "Memes" way past them being funny anymore (But that's mainly FFFFUUUUUUUU or what ever it is.) I think you are being a bit harsh on 4Chan though, although they probably deserve it with the way they treat Reddit, you can have an intelligent conversation, you just need to find the right boards. Places to stay away from are /b/, /v/ (Go to /vg/ instead to talk about video games), /fit/ and /jp/ as these places are normally off topic and the advice they give is terrible. I often have good conversations about all sorts of subjects on /lit/, Recently there was a Socialist vs Capitalist discussion that I inadvertently started. It ended with no clear winner, but it was certainly fun and informative and everyone when away happy and thanking everyone else for their views.

I used to like Reddit but haven't visited it in years. I got fed up of having my posts deleted as "spam" when they were perfectly legitimate. f**k Reddit.

I enjoy Reddit for observational purposes... Sure there are a lot of douches who downvote just because they can, but if you don't let that get to you, it's fun!

From what I've seen and heard, Reddit and 4chan both seem equally moronic to me. Just seems to be websites designated for internet warriors to give themselves that boost that they so desperately need to get through their lives.

they are as moronic as the people who use it,

that is to say, not at all if you manage where you go and what you do on both, they have no censorship so one has to quite literally walk through the perfect s**t storm to get anywhere but it is there.

many of the more serious topics and or uses rely on that storm to remain hidden and irrelevant to large swaths of the population.

I can't understand the Reddit hate. Unless someone ignored your reddit thread or downvoted you a bunch, what's the problem? There is tons of interesting and useful content at Reddit being posted on a daily basis. If it went away, I would be more than a bit disappointed.

There's tons of absolutely revolting crap, as well, including child porn up until recently.

I've lurked both of these sites long enough to know that they are far from cesspools. It's hard to find good quality things, but on occasion, both sites can have intelligent conversations. 4chan's temporary nature makes a lot of good discussion disappear quickly. The shock images and porn get trite after the 50th thread. The vast majority of 4chan's reputation comes solely from /b/, but on most of the other boards, people were comparatively we'll-mannered.

Reddit's strength lies in it's hyperspecialized subreddit system. While the large subreddits cover general, tangentially related disscussions, sometimes you can find gems between reposts and memes. Circlejerking is a lot rarer than most make it out to be. People are downvoted when they have dissenting opinions, provide a lack of support for their opinions, and contribute nothing but angst to disscussions.

I wouldn't worry about either site. But don't rid of the disease that tames the greater threat. Without thing like 4chan as outlets, this behavior could transpose into problems in real life. Most people seem to be kind, even when there slinging feces at everything.

been on 4chan and other various 4chan related sites on the internets for a while now, so why not.

4chan hates Reddit simply because of the downvoting system it has; as it can stop valid opinions and potentially funny memes from existing; along with that it also causes people to constantly ask to get upvoted.

it should also be stated that there is also some hate for the fact many of the memes cycling on Reddit, (not just Reddit, but also along with other sites, such as that annoying and immature cesspit known as 9gag;) originated from 4chan and are being constantly grounded into the dirt until they lose all intelligent thought or creativity. (it should be stated that Reddit have created many memes themselves; but not to the extent 4chan has.)

Anonymous dislike censorship of any kind, and any breach of human or Internet rights; and is one of the few things the collective will actually band together in order to fight against. most to all of the infamous government hacks that anonymous are responsible for have been sparked over such issues, citation; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_(group)#Protest_actions

This is because each and every person is "gay" and "ret*d" in their own way, and that's because of the choices they make. we recognise that, and call people out for it who actually deserve it, be it others or ourselves. in a weird kind of way, it makes us more accepting.
