My mac will not update.

I haven't updated my Mac laptop in over a year. My brother kept on telling me that someone hacked it. I kept on trying to update my computer but it never worked. My brother then tried to update my computer with some tricks up his sleeve and it didn't work either.

So, where can I go to get my computer successfully updated and fixed? Thanks...

What version of OS X are you on at present? What happens when you try to use Software Update?
