If you know the phone model, you can usually use that to research what networks it can connect to.

Oh okay but what do you mean cell towers by networks?

Sort of. More like "what generations of cell-tower technology can it connect to".

Well I thought it would connect to any phones because in the past I could text any cell number I wanted to. Unless for some reason there would be a reason not to connect to certain cell phones, technology wise?

He's not talking about connecting or sending txts directly to other phones, but of the cellular network the phone itself connects to. Sending a txt from a 5g phone to someone [for example with a phone that's older] is dealt with by the cellular companies & how txt msging works. Phones don't connect directly to each other during txting. Are you & your parents (or others this issue occurs with) on different providers?

It's much easier to help if you tell us the make & model of the phone. I've got an older android phone (8 years apparently). It's so old, I must be connected to the cell network to txt. The only issue I've run into with txting generally is iphone to/from andriod years ago. That didn't get resolved until they bought newer iphones.

In your settings you should be able to find the model of your phone & the android version it's running. I can't give directions because I purposely haven't updated my phone in years, & the settings interfaces change significantly.

Are you sending images in the txts? That makes them MMS msgs. I need to have data on or be connected to wifi to send or receive mms. This also is a setting that could be the problem. Ensure your phone isn't set to send all txts as mms. This doesn't sound like the issue, but it's a possibility. Are you having issues receiving theirs? Check that their phones aren't sending everything mms.

Okay thank you for the advice. The phone is a Huawei P30 lite, it says, with the model being MAR-LX3A. Does this help? I am still trying to figure out of it's sending MMS or not. And no I cannot recieve texts either. My parents are on the same network.

According to its manual, it should be compatible with 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. It's very likely that there is at least one of these in your area.

Potential solutions (in no particular order):
1) Restart messaging app.
2) Clear messaging history.
3) Move SIM card to a different phone and see if the problem follows the SIM card.
4) Clear messaging app cache.
5) Update the messaging app.
6) Backup and reset the Network settings.
7) Clear the system cache.
8) Put the phone in safe mode and see if you can send a message.
9) Factory-reset the phone.
10) Check with your network provider to see if anything is screwy with your account.

Oh okay thanks. I tried all these things now and still texting is now working right. It was said before that it could be because the texting was set to MMS but does anyone know where I could find this setting in the phone since I cannot find it anywhere?

Can you make and receive phone calls? Can you pair your phone with anything via Bluetooth? You may have accidentally switched on airplane mode.

I can make phonecalls and I can recieve them. Bluetooh works fine. Only thing not working is the texting for some reason. I can type text messages to people and send them, but they don't arrive. The phone says they have, but the people do not get them. I am not recieving their texts either.
